Can I File And Suspend And Still Receive Spousal Benefits?
Hi Larry,
Hi Larry,
My husband begain drawing social security disability benefits in September, 2017 at the age of 61He passed away early this year. I am 62 and have a meeting scheduled with social security next month. I spoke with them earlier and was told that I would receive survivors benefits equal to what my husband was receiving at the time of his death and this amount would not increase if I waited so there was no reason not to draw on it now. I consulted a financial planner who told me also that I could draw on his full amount , and it would not be subject to the income limits.
Larry
My DOB 1950, now 67 and did not apply for SS.. I am waiting to collect on my 70 birthday.
My wife turned 66 in Feb 2018 and started collecting SS in March 2018.
Can I collect 1/2 of my wife s benefits until I am 70, when I plan to apply for my full SS benefits.
Will I be penalized or get reduced benefits when I apply for SS benefits when I turn 70?
Thanks
Lester
Hi Lester,
I will be 66 this year (2018) and still working. I am thinking of retiring this year. My husband passed in 2010 at the age of 59. My income was always more than his but am I eligible to receive his Social Security Benefit as well?
Hi,
I'm sorry for your loss.
Hello,
My sister's husband passed away several years ago and when she turned 60 she applied for social security. She was
told to take social security under her husband (widow's benefit maybe?). She is now 63 and has realized that she made
more money than he did and her benefit would have been bigger. Can she switch to her own?
Hello Larry
My wife (64) is on SS disability. I will be 66 shortly can I collect spousal benefits on her SS disability, and let my SS benefits grow until I'm 70?
Thanks Art
Hi Art,
If a spouse files for full SS Benefits at FRA, are there any restrictions in switching to higher spousal benefits two years later when her husband files for SS at age 70?
Hi,
I will be turning 62 in Nov. I was thinking of collecting my social security at that time. My husband will not retire for 6 more years. my queston is can i start collecting my own at 62 and then in 6 years when he retires swith over to get half of his and not mine?
Hi,
My husband is 66 and receiving full retirement benefits. I am 62, and both he and I are still working. Can I receive 1/2 of my husbands social security now (letting my own benefit grow) and then switch to mine at the age of 66 and 4months? Or, if doing this, I am stuck with a reduced benefit amount at full retirement, would it still make sense to do this? As of now, it shows early retirement for me at about $750 a month (full retirement at about $1000), and 1/2 of my husband's amount would be $650.
My husband filed for social security in 2014 when he turned 62. He was sentenced to state prison in may 2015. Social security stopped his monthly checks. He should get out in February 2019. I currently work full time. I turn 66 this July. Should I file for spousal benefits? Can I? Will my benefits continue to grow if I wait to collect when I'm 70? Does my husband have any options to maximize his benefits when he gets out of prison. Thanks for your help!
Hi,
