Do You Have Any Advice?

While I am in TX, my question is about a friend's caregiver who has about 30 SS quarters, but spent 10 years caring for a retired/disabled military AF Colonel. When he died, she now finds herself nearly destitute and with no benefits. Any advice? She lives in Georgia outside of Atlanta. She has applied for Medicaid without success.

Will My Wife's NY State Pension Affect Her Social Security Benefits?

My wife and I are trying to get a handle on her expected retirement income. (I am her spouse, retired, age 66.) She may retire in Feb. 2019 and would begin to draw the max. eligible pension from NY State. She will be eligible for SSA benefits at that time (2/2019) when she turns 66. Her pension is estimated to be ~ $40K/yr. Will there be any reduction/penalty to either her pension or SSA payout? Further, is there any penalty since I will also be receiving the SSA benefit? Thank you for your reply.

Do I Have To Respond To Social Security?

My brother received an award of social security disability at around 1k. After that the SS cut his benefit to 400 dollars without explanation. They are now asking me for information about my brother from me. Do I have to respond and what are the consequences if I don't? They are threating to take away all his benefits and medical treatment if I don't reply. Is that legal?

How Will My Civil Service Survivor Pension Affect My Social Security Benefits?

My husband did not pay into social security, as his widow I have been receiving his pension (Civil Servant) now I am eligible to apply for social security benefits based on my life employment.

How does receiving his pension affect my social security benefits?

Hi,

It won't. Receipt of a civil service survivor pension has no effect on any type of Social Security benefits.

Best, Jerry

Can I Change My Start Date For Benefits?

I submitted my social security application today. Afterwards I realized I should have put in the start date as 10/2017. I wanted the first check in November. I'm 67 yrs 2 months if that matters. Also, my retirement date is Sept 30, 2017. Can I somehow change the start date?
One more thing, the application also asked if I wanted Medicare B and I said yes. If the start date isn't changed does it affect the start date of Medicare B? Thank you for your answers. Trying to find answers on line is very difficult.

Is It True That I Get A Lower Benefit Rate Because I Got My Social Security Number In Puerto Rico?

Hi Larry.
I have a question for you, a long time ago I was told that if my social number was given to me in Puerto Rico that when it was time to get the benefits when I became of retire age that I could not get the same amount as of someone with a social security number given to them in the states. I think is true because I have a niece that became disable and is getting more than I do. Also she did not work as much as I did. Please let me know if it is true and if it is what can I do to get the right benefits.

Will Our Marriage Affect My Husband's Benefits?

My husband is 78 years old and is sickly. We got married October last year. I am 53 years old now. My husband is only receiving a little over 1200 from his social security pension. He failed to report to the social security that he got married. I cannot work because I have to take care of him . I am thinking of applying for IHSS to at least be able to augment our finances since our apartment rentals is raising. His annual income is a little over 17000 only.. He is afraid that if he reports that he got married the social security will deduct from his small pension.
