How Can I Find Out If Someone Has Successfully Filed Against My Social Security Number?

My Social Security number was compromised according to my Credit Report.. How can I find out if anyone has successfully filed against my SS number

Hi,

It's extremely unlikely that someone would have used your Social Security number to apply for Social Security benefits, but the only way that you could find out for sure is to call or visit a Social Security office.

Best, Jerry

How Do I Apply For A Totalization Benefit?

Hi Larry

I have worked on and off in the US for 20 years I'm 54. It seems I will have eligibility for some benefits if I qualify on credits. My current statement says I have 36 credits and it seems to include 2 years of assumed work. I have not worked in the US since 2016 so I calculate that I have 28 credits now.

I have also worked in many other countries. I' a Canadian and Swiss Citizen and have worked about 5 years in each and I expect to get pension from each. I have also worked 4-5 years in Japan and 1 year in Australia.

Can I Appeal Social Security's Decision To Award Me Only Six Months Of Retroactive Benefits?

I applied for retirement benefits on my ex-spouse’s record in Jan, 2020, I turned 70 in Feb, 2020. I applied on her record as it would yield me a little more of a monthly benefit. I also received a six month lump sum retroactive payment going back to July, 2019. I was happy of course but also annoyed with myself for not applying earlier, as my ex-spouse turned 62 in Sept, 2018. Now I’ve read in a book called, Social Security 101, by Alfred Mill, (published 2016) the following on page 142:

Will My Benefit Rate Be Reduced If I Have Years With Zero Earnings?

I have been in ministry for over 30 years and was exempt from social security taxes. Prior to entering the ministry I worked in jobs where social security was paid and have the necessary quarter credits to qualify for benefits. . My social security statement tells me based on my earnings calculated on my prior work history my estimated benefit will be $1200. I am told that even though the estimate shows the $1200 that all of the years where I was exempt will be calculated into the formula as zero earnings and that my benefit will be reduced significantly because of that.

When Do Increases Caused By A Higher Year Of Earnings Go Into Effect?

I started receiving benefits at FRA, but am continuing to work. In theory, every year I work, one of my lower earning years should fall off. I understand that benefits get recalculated automatically every year. If I am eligible for an increase when does that go into effect; is it on my birthday, or on the anniversary of my initial employment, or the beginning of the fiscal year, etc.?
Any clarification you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks For The Help

Hi Larry, I don't actually have a question, I just wanted to write to thank you for the advice and links you forwarded me after asking my questions.

Just wanted to let you and everyone else know that the information on the links were spot on and when I asked my local SS office about my situation, I was able to show them the information on the links and then they understood what I was referring to.

I have recently applied for my wife's and my SS and, once we apply for my disabled adult child's SS, we will be receiving pretty much what I was expecting.
