Can I Collect Benefits Early?

Early Social Security and Spouse Benefit: Age 55, I was laid off almost 2 years ago (secretary), living off IRA (already owe taxes for withdrawing), applying for SSID (had surgery), my questions are, can I collect spouse benefit (was married over 10 years) now and can I collect early Social Security benefits, but stop collecting if I were to return to work? What are my options, thank you so much for your help.

How Would Getting Married Affect Me?

Hello I am currently receiving social security disability, private long term disability payments and sporadic child support payments for my child under 18 and children over 18. I am 49 years old and will turn 50. My question is that I have been contemplating marrying my significant other who is about to turn 70 in July. He currently his public retirement funds and plan to apply when he turn 70 in July. I am aware that because he recieves PERS, that his social security retirement amount will be reduced.

Will Our Benefits Change When We Get Married?

I'm a retired male 63 years old and going to get married, probably next year. Will my benefits change? My fiance' is 56 and collects disability. Will my wife's benefits change?

Hi,

Assuming that you're referring to Social Security benefits payable on your own records then no, getting married wouldn't change your benefits. Remarriage can potentially result in the termination of divorced spousal benefits and disabled adult child's benefits, though.

Shouldn't My Deceased Brother's Last Check Go To His Estate Rather Than His Estranged Daughter?

My brother died 5/13/18. His SSA benefits were automatically sent to his bank on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. It is my understanding that the May payment would have been for the month of April (1-30), and the June payment would be for the month of May (1-31). I am the Executor of his Will, and in that Will it clearly specifies that he leaves NO provision for his daughter. They have been estranged for years. His parents and spouse pre-deceased him.

Can My Daughter Claim Her Social Security At Age 55?

Looking for info for daughter who is 55 unable to work but was turned down for disability. I'm wondering is she could claim her Social Security at age 55?

Hi,

No, unless your daughter qualifies for disability benefits (SSDI) the soonest that she could get benefits based on her own work record would be age 62, And, her benefit rate would be reduced for age she takes her retirement benefits prior to her full retirement age of 67.

Is There Any Way To Get My Case Out Of Payment Center Backlog?

I won my appeal in Nov. I have been trying to get my widows benefits, I am told they are backlogged is there anyway to get out of payment center backlog?

Hi,

I'm not sure what your best course of action might be without more specific information on your situation. Sometimes it helps to keep contacting Social Security on a regular basis, but not always. You may also want to try contacting the office of either your congressional representative or one of your senators to see if they would make an inquiry on your behalf.

Best, Jerry
