Will I Lose My Social Security Since I Now Live In A State That Doesn't Withdraw Social Security Taxes From My Earnings?

Hi, I worked as an educator for 10 years in AZ and worked other jobs for 10 years in AZ. I moved to IL and found out that teachers here don't have social security withdrawn from their checks. I was told the IL TRS acts like social security and a state pension. I know in AZ after you reach so many points you can retire and collect AZ state retirement then when you get to the age for social security, you receive that. I kept my AZ state retirement because it accrues interests and collects points still. I don't want to loose the money I put into social security.

If My Husband Gets A Survivor Pension Based On My Post Office Work Will It Reduced His Social Security?

I am a retired CSRS postal employee. My husband's survivor benefit from me is $1,896 monthly. Will this reduce his Social Security payment, which will be based on his work earnings, not mine. Thank you for your help.

Hi,

No. If your husband receives a survivor pension from the CSRS (Civil Service Retirement System) it would have no effect on his Social Security benefits.

Best, Jerry

What Social Security Am I Entitled To?

I have been teacher for 25 years and am retiring in May. I also worked 40 quarters under Social Security before teaching. I have been told I will not collect SS due to a Windfall elimination act. What windfall? A teacher salary? I also am divorced and was married for 15 years. What SS am I entitled to? Thanks, Becky

If I Pull My Pension Will I Receive My Full Social Security Benefits?

I worked in the public sector for 30 yrs, also have all my quarters. Currently I'm retired collecting Soc. Sec, and my pension. If I pull my pension will I receive full Soc. Sec, benefits and must I invest my pension or can I deposit in the bank

Hi,

I'm not sure what you mean by pulling your pension. But, if it means some type of conversion from a monthly payment to a lump sum distribution, then you'll likely still be subject to a potential reduction in your Social Security benefit rate due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP).

Is It True That I'll Get No U.S. Social Security Benefits Due To WEP?

I am 65 and when I look under my SS benefits, it tells me I am entitled to small benefit. I have been on social security disability from Germany for the last 6 years. ( not a ton of money either). I read now something about WEP, which would mean I would not get nothing from SS in the US or even less from my SS disability from Germany, I do not pay taxes on my SS disability in Germany. Is this true?

Will My Social Security Benefits Be Affected If I Receive A Survivor Pension From The Post Office?

I'm 69 years old and started drawing my own full social security at 67 .I worked for 30 + years . My wife is going to retire from the post office and put me down for a survivor annuity . Up on her death will my own social security, or the survivor benefit from her post office retirement be affected by the windfall act, or wep act?

Will My Wife Be Subject To The Windfall Elimination Provision?

My wife is a German citizen who worked as a Doctor in Germany in the 1980's and has contributed and still contributes monthly to the German Doctors' Pension, Badem-Wuerttemburgische Versorgungsanstalt fuer Aertzte. We both reside in the US and she is now a US citizen, eligible for Social Security at age 62 in 3 years, having worked 24 years in the US. Only a handful of hear earnings years in the US would be considered substantial earnings years by Social Security.
