Non-Covered Pension - WEP / GPO

Can My Wife Get A 50% Spousal Benefit Instead Of Her Own Benefit When I Start Drawing?

My wife retired at age 62 from LAUSD and work somewhere else before. she took her retirement from LAUSD plus her 62 retirement benefit from Social security but getting only supplemental for her LAUSD retirement? Can she get the 50% spouse benefits instead when I will take my full retirement in 2 years because the 50% spouse SS is bigger than what she is getting now.

Is The WEP Reduction Limited To Half Of The Reduced Or Unreduced Amount of My Non-Covered Pension?

I elected to take an early reduced monthly pension from my non-covered work at age 60 and if apply for Social Security at age 67, is the WEP limited to 1/2 of my reduced monthly pension that I'm currently getting or would it be based on the unreduced pension I would have received if I'd elected to wait?

Does My Wife's Pension From The U.K. Affect Her Spousal Benefits?

My wife only worked 12 quarters in the US. She is a UK and US citizen. We met and married in London. She became a US citizen after she moved to the US with me. She is currently drawing 1/2 my benefit as a spouse. She is 71 and I am 73. Last year she filed for a UK Government pension (She worked in the UK from 1974 to 1988) and also a private pension benefit from her UK employer. The UK Government Pension she receives is about $4,500/year and the Private Employer pension about $3,000/ year.

Why Is My U.S. Social Security Being Reduced Because Of My U.K. Pension?

I lived for 12 years in the UK with my British husband and am receiving a small UK social security type pension. I earned 0 income in the US in those 12 years and my history shows those years as 0. I am now claiming from social security at my full retirement age of 66 in February and I've been told that I am subject to "windfall elimination provision" because I'm collecting a small amount from the UK. Approximately $200 a month is being subtracted from what I will receive.

Am I Correct That My Wife Won't Be Subject To WEP As My Survivor?

I am a 73 year old man who retired from the Ca Dept. of Corrections in 2010. I was subject to the windfall provisions and receive $414 a month from SS. My wife who I married in 2010 is from Russia and a U.S. citizen. She is 64 and receives $225 a month from SS. As I understand it when I die her SS entitlement will be recalculated as survivor's benefits are not subject to the windfall provision. Do I have that correct?

Would My Husband's Survivor Benefits Be Reduced Because Of WEP?

According to the estimates we have received from the SSA, my SS benefit is greater than my husband's and the difference is likely to grow when the Windfall Exemption Provision (WEP) is applied to his benefit. He worked for a significant number of years as a teacher in Texas and did not pay into Social Security during that time. However, he has 21 years of work with "substantial earnings" outside of Texas when he did pay into Social Security. It is my understanding that his SS retirement benefit will be reduced to some degree by the WEP.

If I Rollover The Money In My TRS Pension To An IRA, Would I Have Any Issues When Collecting Social Security?

Hi Larry,

I have been teaching for the past 20 years and I'm thinking about making a career change. I would like to roll the money in my TRS pension into an IRA. I would then begin another profession that would have me paying into social security. I already have some social security credits from previous jobs and I would plan on staying at this job for the next 15-20 years. Would I have any issues collecting social security when I retire at age 65 since I was paying into a pension as a teacher (even though the pension would have been rolled over)?
