Will My Child In Care Spousal Benefits End When I Reach Age 66?

Thank you so much for your answer to my question about Child in Care benefits and filing on my own record (January 21 2017). I think I need to get the software. I am confused about your answer, however. You said I would still qualify for Child in Care benefits if I file for my own at age 65 years and 7 months. I understand that part, but won't Child in Care benefits end when I turn 66? I always assumed that I would have to file under my own or spousal benefits, or a combination of the two, when I reached Full Retirement Age.
Thanks!
Karen

Am I Eligible For Spousal Benefits?

I am 66 as of Sept 2016 and began my benefits at 62. I currently receive $842 after Medicare deductions. My husband is 78 and receives $1,997.00 following deductions. Am I able to apply and receive spousal benefit since I have reached full retirement age now? I have been told I can not but that info came second hand. I have not been able to find this exact example in my internet searches. Thanks for your help.

Will My Husband Receive Benefits If I File At Age 66?

I am grandfathered in on the social security restricted application, born Sept 1953. My husband born Dec 1956. If I take my ss benefits at FRA of 66 will my husband receives ss benefits?

Hi,

Possibly. He'll be over 62 when you turn 66, so if you file then for retirement benefits he could file for reduced spousal benefits. He'd also be deemed to be filing for benefits on his own record, though, and he'd only receive essentially the higher of the 2 benefits.

When Will My Wife Be Eligible For Spousal Benefits?

Hi Larry.

I was born in Nov 1952 and my wife was born in Dec 1956. While I have worked most of my life, my wife had only worked for just about a year and then just stayed at home as a housewife all her life because she suffered from back pain.

A have a few questions for you:

1. I would be turning 66 in Nov 2018. I plan on getting my benefits starting at age 66. As I turn 66, my wife would be turning 62. Would she be able to get any spousal benefits at age 62 or does she have to wait until she turns 66 to get any spousal benefits?

Can I Apply For Benefits Based On My Husband's Earnings?

My husband is not a citizen however he paid into social security. He worked in the U..S. for years. I am a citizen. Can I apply for his social security?

Hi,

Possibly. He would have to be entitled to retirement or disability benefits in order for you to be eligible, though, among other requirements. For more information on spousal benefits, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/applying6.html.

Best, Jerry

Will My Wife's Own Benefit Rate Be Reduced If She Receive's Child In Care Spousal Benefits?

Here is a question I am having trouble finding answer to. I am applying for retirement benefits at age 62 because we have a 6 year old and the amount she would receive as family benefit is more than the difference if I wait till age 66. My question concerns my wife. She is actually the higher wage earner and I know she can receive spousal benefits, even though she is not 62, because of the 6 year old. But, if she applies for spousal benefits, will that lock her into reduced benefits on her own Social Security even if she waits until age 66 to claim?

Will My Wife Be Able To Get Spousal Benefits When I Start Drawing My Benefits?

If my wife claimed her social security at 62, can she get an additional benefit when I retire (I will get almost 4 times more than she gets now). My wife is now 71. What percentage of my benefit could she get (if any) if I start my benefits later this year at 62.

Hi,

Yes, your wife could potentially get an excess spousal benefit on your record when you start drawing your benefits. I'll give you an example to illustrate how her benefit rate would be calculated.

How Are Reduced Spousal Benefits Calculated?

Hello Larry et al. Just when I think I might have this social security thing figured out I read something that makes me question everything I "know". I certainly intend to purchase your software but wanted to follow-up on a response you provided to a question asked back in July 2016 (entire question and response provided is below -- I added names for clarity). That question mirrors the one I have except for the spousal reaching her FRA. In that question John had filed for his regular retirement at 62 and Mary had just reached her FRA.
