This question has probably been answered at least in part, but it's still confusing. Here's my situation...I will be 65 in November of this year. I started collecting my own social security when I turned 62. My husband is 66 and working full time until September, 2017. He will collect Social Security at that time. My question is, when he collects, will I be able to change over to spousal benefit, or will my benefit remain as is? Thank you so much.

I am 62 Oct 5, 2016. Working full time. I don't plan on taking SS until I turn 66. My wife is 69 and collecting on her own SS work history. Do I have to file on my SS before she can file for half of mine.

AT AGE 70, I PLAN TO FILE FOR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS IN AUGUST OF 2018. MY WIFE WHO WAS BORN IN DEC. 1952 WILL REACH HER FULL RETIREMENT AGE OF 66 IN DEC. 2018. Can I Get Spousal Benefits?

I am reading all these questions and answers and still do not understand social security, so I apologize in advance. I just recently retired and started collecting social security at age 62. My husband (age 65) worked in law enforcement for 35 years and didn't pay into social security, but had a previous job which did. He is retired, but now working part time. He is short 12 credits from collecting any social security. Does that mean I cannot collect spousal benefits? Not sure what can be claimed or when. Thank you

HELP!!! Can't find anything about common law marriage. I was married around 2 yrs. in 1967 -1969 divorced because of abuse etc. We have been living together now 32 yrs. I was told by soc.sec. because I was not married 10 yrs. I could not receive his soc.sec. as long as he is alive, but I could if he was deceased. Because the 9mos. law counted from the 60s. THANKS, FOR ANY HELP!!!! IS THIS IN THE BOOK????

I am 66. My husband is 76. I was poor advised to start collecting my own social security at age 62. Now I have been told that I could collect one-half of my husband's social security payment if it is larger than mine without affecting his payment. Is this true? Can I do anything about it at this point?

No, you would have to either be receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits in order for your husband to potentially qualify for spousal benefits.
