Survivor Benefits

Am I Entitled To Widow's Benefits On My Former Husband's Record Even If I Remarried At Age 60?

My husband of 43 years passed away when I was 58 years old.I remarried when I was 60 years and 1 month old I started drawing at 62 but I don’t draw much am I entitled to my widows benefit ?my current husband dress a small disability check and we still make a small income.

Hi. Yes, at least potentially. Marriages that occur after a person reaches age 60 don't bar them from being able to collect survivor benefits on the account of a former deceased spouse.

Will My Wife's Survivor Benefit Be Affected If She Takes Spousal Benefits At Age 65?

I'm 68 on ss and I started at FRA. My wife is 64 and earned her own ss but her spousal benefit would be much higher. Our question is about her eventual survival benefit when i pass. Will her future survivor benefit be affected if she takes spousal benefit at 65. I know her spousal benefit will be reduced but I dont know if her future survivor benefit will also be reduced.

Am I Eligible To Collect Benefits Off Of My Wife's SSI?

my wife passed In 2012. I returned her ssi check the same day she died. At local ss ofice.i never inquired about collicting off her ssi. I was told i couldn't, buy some friends. I looking for ur opion. Ty.

Hi Ty. I'm sorry for your loss. If what your wife was receiving was Supplemental Security Income (SSI), there are no survivor benefits involved. SSI is a needs based benefit, and only people who individually qualify for SSI can be paid those benefits.

Why Would Social Security Ask Me To Return My Son's Social Security Funds?

Hello.
My husband passed in December of this past year. Our four children are receiving survivor benefits. My oldest graduates in May, and I received a letter as did he that his checks will go to him directly vs. my bank account for the next two months and then will stop upon graduation.
One letter said I needed to send funds back to SS. I’m very confused about that.
Also, when this payment stops, will the amount received by my other three children go up? And do I need to do anything to make sure this happens correctly and in a timely manner ?

Will Survivor Benefits Be Reduced If The Surviving Spouse Is Receiving Their Own Benefits?

Is a spouse's survivor benefits limited if the surviving spouse has their own high retirement benefit.

In other words, if both spouses are receiving maximum benefits, will the survivor's benefits be reduced?

Hi. Yes. You can't collect more than one full Social Security benefit at the same time, so if you're already drawing your own benefits and if your spouse dies you could only be paid up to the higher of the two benefit rates.

Best, Jerry

If My Husband Passes Away, Am I Entitled To His Social Security Benefits?

I’m 52 years old. My husband is already collecting SSI at 60 years due to a disability. If he were to pass away I’m I entitled to file for his social security benefits.

Hi. I assume that you mean that your husband is collecting Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, not Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSI is a needs based payment, and does not provide for any survivor payments.
