Widow's Benefits

Can I Receive Widow's Benefits With COLAs And Delayed Retirement Credits?

My husband passed in 2011, at age 59. He was receiving SSDI. I am currently age 60, and wonder if I would receive widow benefits with colas and even delayed retirement credits? I am currently receiving SSDI, and thinking of just taking his if it might be higher, and can I stop mine before age 62 and allow for increases such as delayed ret. Credits? Ty!

If A Widow Claims Benefits At Age 60 How Is Their Benefit Rate Calculated?

I’m confused concerning widows benefit amount and how it is calculated. I’ve read a widow can claim benefits as early as age 60 and she will receive 71% of the husbands’ “ basic benefit amount “ . Is this basic benefit amount the amount he is entitled to receive at time of his death including additional monies for delayed retirement or is this amount just the amount one is entitled to at full retirement?
Seems to me she should get 71% of whatever the husband was entitled to at the time of his death not 71% of his benefits at full retirement age. Thank you

Can I Get Retroactive Widow's Benefits If My Spouse Died Six Years Ago?

I was just informed by ssi that I can get widows benefits,
He passed 6 yrs ago, can I get retro active pay

Hi. First off, the earliest that you can possibly qualify for widow's benefits is at age 60, unless you're disabled in which case you could potentially qualify as early as age 50. You'd also need to meet the other requirements, as outlined in the following section of Social Security's handbook: https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.04/handbook-0401.html.

If I'm Collecting Widow's Benefits At Age 64 Will I Ever Get The Full Amount?

I'm collecting my widows ss I'm 64 will I ever get the full amount

Hi. There's not enough information in your question for me to be able to give you a proper answer. Here's what I can tell you. If you start drawing widow's benefits prior to your full retirement age (FRA) then your benefit rate is subject to a reduction for age. That reduction for age is permanent, unless you were also drawing Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits based on your own earnings history when you started drawing widow's benefits.

Am I Entitled To My Husband's Social Security Benefit?

I am a widow and my husband was receiving Social Security.
Am I entitled to his pension

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. A widow can get up to the full amount of their husband's Social Security benefit if they meet the requirements, but if they start drawing prior to full retirement age (FRA) their benefit rate is normally reduced for age. Furthermore, if you're drawing your own Social Security benefits you could only be paid essentially the higher of your own amount or your husband's amount.
