Will My Benefit Rate Change When I Turn Age 62?

I only get 855 00 a month for disability will that change when I am 62

Hi,

Probably not. Nothing changes with regard to Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) simply due to the fact that you turn age 62. In theory, you could file for regular Social Security retirement benefits at that time, but that would likely just cut your benefit rate by anywhere from 25% - 30%. The only way that it may help you to do that is if your SSDI rate is being reduced because you also receive Workers Compensation or public disability benefits, or if you have family members who qualify for benefits on your record.

Assuming that you remain eligible for SSDI until you reach your full retirement age, your SSDI will convert at that time to unreduced retirement benefits at the same rate.

Best, Jerry
