Like all others , it’s been a nightmare process, in it a year now , I’m at the reconsideration level. Have a disc/ spine issue, sent me to a physical consultation exam, performed by a 92 year old dr who only comes in for SS patients. Now I have a appointment for a mental consultation end of January. I finally got my own dr to fill out a medical source statement for me , it clearly shows I can’t perform the work I used to do. I sent that in after my reconsideration appeal papers. Question is will someone actually look at the medical source info , or will they just deny and kick it up to appeal to court, which we all know will take years to do, but I’m sure a judge will approve, problem is I’m not sure if I’ll last that long.

Filing for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits can certainly be a long and frustrating process, so good luck with your claim.

I do believe that the medical source statement from your doctor will be reviewed and given due consideration by the disability examiner responsible for making the determination on your reconsideration request. However, I should point out that only about 15% of cases are approved at the reconsideration level of appeal. Furthermore, in most cases you must be determined to be unable to all types of work in order to qualify for SSDI, not just the types of work that you previously performed.

On a more hopeful note, though, almost 2/3rds of SSDI claims that reach the hearings level of appeal are approved.
