I am filing for disability, I do not have a 401k or any stocks and bonds however my husband still works has a 401k and stocks and bonds will this interfere with my filing for disability
Hi,
If you are filing for Social Security disability benefits (SSDI), then ownership of stocks and bonds by either you or your husband would have no effect on your eligibility for SSDI.
But, if you are filing for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) which is a needs based program that Social Security administers, then stock and bond ownership by either you or your husband could make you ineligible for SSI depending on the value of the stocks and bonds. For more information about SSI, refer to Social Security's website: https://www.ssa.gov/ssi/.
Best, Jerry
