Can You Tell Me How Much Social Security I Received Last Year?
Can you tell me how much social security I recv’d last year?. How much should I expect to receive this year? Something seems wrong to me. Last year I received
$300.00. Sorry to be so slow….thank you for your patience…
Hi. No, it wouldn't be possible to tell you how much you received last year without having access to your Social Security records. If you need to know how much Social Security you received in 2020, you'll need to contact Social Security to request a copy of form SSA-1099. You may be able to do that online, but if not you'll need to . . . Read More

Will Investing In Bitcoin Affect My SSI?
I have Supplemental Security Income. If I invest in bitcoin will that effect my SSI?
Hi. It certainly might, especially if you make a profit. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is needs based and there are limits on how much income and resources a person can have and still be able to qualify for SSI. Therefore, any increase in your income or countable assets can cause your SSI payments to stop or be reduced.

Does My Naval Service Qualify Me For Extra SS?
I was in the Navy 1959-1963. How do I know if I qualify for extra S.S. benefits.
Hi. If you were on active duty during those years then Social Security would add deemed military wages (DMW) to your actual earnings in those years (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.09/handbook-0953.html). Those extra deemed wages could then be used when calculating your benefit amount, but whether or not that would actually increase you benefit rate depends on your full earnings . . . Read More

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. The answer to your question is possibly, but I there isn't enough information in your question for me to be able to advise you. Until you reach full retirement age (FRA) there is a limit on how much you can earn and still collect benefits, so whether or not you could be paid benefits depends on your potential benefit rate as well as your earnings ( . . . Can I Buy A Duplex And Collect Rent If I'm On SSDI?
hi ,
Iam on ssdi and wanted to make sure that I can buy a duplex and collect rent and live there for 3 years and then buy another one .
Sincerely,
Irene
Hi Irene. Yes, you can buy a duplex and collect rent without affecting your Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. Rental income does not count as earned income for Social Security purposes, and there is no limit on the amount of assets that you can own and still collect SSDI benefits.

Am I Entitled To Surviving Spousal Benefits?
I earn 100K year and 61 years old. Wife recently died and was receiving SS benefits. Am I entitled to spousal survivor benefits?
Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you would probably meet the requirements for widower's benefits, but due to your earnings you almost certainly couldn't actually be paid any benefits. Based on Social Security earnings test, $1 of your benefits would need to be withheld for each $2 that you earn in excess of $18,960 this year and $19,560 next year ( . . . Read More

If I Earn More Than The Annual Limt Next Year Will My Wife's Spousal Benefits Be Affected?
My wife and I plan to start drawing Social Security Benefits. She is FRA (66.4) and entitled only to spousal benefits. I will only be 65. If I earn more than the annual limit (~19k) next year, will her benefits be affected? I understand the amount that mine will be reduced.
Hi. Yes. If you earn more than the earnings test exempt amount then Social Security will need to withhold at least part of both your benefits and your wife's spousal benefits. The basic rule is that for each $2 that a worker earns in excess of the exempt amount, $1 of the benefits . . . Read More

I AM GETTING SS NOW AND STILL WORKING IT SAYS THEY WILL REDO IT AFTER THE FIRST YEAR THEY DID NOT THIS IS MY 3RD YEAR I MAKE A LOT OF EXTRA MONY NOW THAN IN MY YOUNGER DAY SO IT SHOULD OF RAISED A GOOD BIT WHY DID I NOT GET IT
Hi. Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of a person's highest 35 years of Social Security covered wage-indexed earnings, so additional years of earnings only increase a person's benefit rate if they're higher than one or more of the 35 years currently being used to calculate their benefit rate. I have no way . . . Read More

Will We See Justice Done Soon?
I get pension under the old fed retirement and also worked for nys. My ssa was reduced by about haft and my fed pension by $700. Will we see justice done soon.
Hi. I'm not an expert on federal employee pensions, but if you receive a federal pension and if you didn't pay Social Security taxes on your federal earnings then the fact that your Social Security retirement benefits were reduced is probably correct. Based on the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP), Social Security retirement and disability benefits are normally calculated using a less generous . . . Read More

If I've Requested A Withdrawal Of My Claim Is It Possible To Get An Extension Of The Time Limit For Repaying My Benefits?
I'm 64 years old and took social security at 63 for 9 months, due to unemployment. I've withdrawn my application but most likely won't be able to pay back my benefits by the due date of 75 days. Is an extension greater than 75 days possible, or an installment plan past the 75 day limit? I'm employed now and could repay but not the full amount by the 75 day due date. For full amount I would need 4 to 6 months.
Hi. No. There's really no set time limit for repaying benefits when you withdraw a claim, but if you don't repay the benefits in full by the deadline . . . Read More
