Will My Daughter Automatically Start Getting CDB Benefits If Her Father Listed Her On His Application?

I have a 32 year old adult disabled daughter (who was deemed disabled before age 22) on both SSI and SSDI based on her own work record. She earned 6 credits before age 24 which qualified her to collect SSDI on her own work record in addition to collecting SSI. During the time she worked she never reached SGA (Substantial Gainful Activity). Her father just filed for retirement benefits and as a result our daughter will be entitled to Childhood Disability Benefits (CDB) off of his work record. She will no longer receive SSI and will be dually entitled receiving her full SSDI . . . Read More

Can My Wife File Early Based On My Earnings And Delay Filing For Her Own Benefits Until Age 72?

Larry.

I'm 50, my wife is 43. We have a 5 year old child. My FRA is 67, at which point she will be 60. I would like I to delay filing for social security until 72 to let it max out, and then claim it. At that point, she will be 65, 2 years short FRA. Can she file for early retirement against my earnings, delay filing against her own SS until 72, and then switch over to that to get the max amount?

I'd like for both of us to retire at 60, which means my wife would be working for 7 years after I retire. We both have a 401, IRA and Roth IRA. I also have a cash balance . . . Read More

Why Am I Receiving More Than The Published Maximum Benefit Rate?

Born in 1948. Took my benefit at age 70 after having more than 35 years at maximum social security wages. I receive MORE than the published max of $3895. per month for 2021 and have each year since I began my benefit. WHY ???

Hi. Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of a person's highest 35 years of Social Security covered wage-indexed earnings, and the indexing factors used to calculate a person's benefit rate are different for each calendar year of birth. So, when you read something about a maximum benefit rate, they are likely . . . Read More

Can My Wife Apply For Her Own Benefits Online?

My wife at age 66 (her FRA) filed a "restricted spousal only" application in 2018. That process went very well and she has been receiving 1/2 of my PIA since that filing. She turns 70 in 2022 and we want to file then for her own full benefit which will be more than 1/2 of my PIA. Does she need to file at a Social Security office or can that be done online via the SSA site. What info will be needed and if at the SSA office does she need an appointment. Thank you in advance

Will Our Claim Get Processed Without My Grandmother's SSN?

My father passed, and is owed his final payment. It's his ONLY asset. I am completing SSA-1724 - and listing all 4 children. However, his mother (100 years old) is still alive. She is unwilling to give me her SSN to complete the form. Will it get processed without her SSN?

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. Yes, I think so. Assuming that your grandmother isn't eligible for a parent's benefit on your father's account, then his children would be higher than his mother on the priority list for payment of the underpayment. So, I don't think not having your . . . Read More

What Do I Need To Do If I Change Bank Accounts?

If your monthly allotment is direct deposit, and the account the account for the account has been closed, and a new account has been opened in the same facility will, Social Security transfer the allotment to the new account?
If the allotment is not deposited, what EXACTLY WOULD I NEED TO DO MAKE THE ADJUSTMENT? Personally, I’d rather SPEAK WITH SOMEONE IN PERSON. AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Today’s date is September 2, 2021.
Thank You,
Sylvia

Can You Confirm That My Wife Will Be Allowed To Collect Half Of What I Receive?

My wife took early social security at reduced rate age 64. Her birth date ie 7/16/1953. I plan to retire this December at 66 and 2 months my full retirement date(10/20/55. I have been told by SS that my wife due to her birth date will be allowed to collect on my SS at 1/2 what I received
Which will be a tremendous increase. Can you confirm this and explain why .
Thank You

Hi. Not exactly. Since your wife was born prior to January 2 1954, if she hadn't already applied for her own benefits she could have filed a restricted application for just . . . Read More

Do I Qualify For Anything From My Deceased Husband's Record?

My husband passed away and was receiving SSI at the time I don't receive anything do I qualify for any thing from him we had no kids and I'm 38

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. If your husband was receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) then you wouldn't be eligible for any benefits from that program. SSI is a needs based benefit that only pays eligible individuals, not spouses or survivors.

However, if your husband was receiving Social Security benefits and if you a he were married for at least 9 months then you may be able to qualify for . . . Read More

What Is The Maximum I Can Make On Retirement To Qualify For Spousal Social Security?

Do not have enough credits to draw. Wishing to draw from husband. What is the max I can make on retirement to qualify for spouse social security?
Thank you for your time.

Hi. I'm not sure if you're referring to the Social Security earnings test or the Government Pension Offset (GPO) provision. If you apply for spousal benefits prior to your full retirement age (FRA) there's a limit on how much you can earn and still draw all of your benefits. In 2021, the exempt amount of earnings for people who won't reach FRA until after this year is $18,960. For . . . Read More

Would The Fact That My Wife Just Sold A House Affect My Ability To Apply For Disability?

I had 3 heart attack and want to apply for disability but my wife just sold a house and gave her son $100000 as a gift do we have to pay taxes on that and will this affect my ability to apply to disability.

Hi. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, so I'm unable to answer questions about taxes. The fact that your wife sold a house wouldn't hinder your ability to qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, nor any other type of Social Security benefit.

The only type of benefit that Social Security administers that could . . . Read More
