Doesn't The Governmental Pension Offset Only Apply To U.S. Federal, State Or Local Government Workers?
My wife are both British having lived in the US since 1989. We are both US Citizens now. I am 67 years old and my wife is 66 years 2 months. I receive a US Social security pension and a UK state pension. The US SS benefits are reduced due to WEP which I get. My wife has never worked in the US and has applied for Spousal benefits in the US. She also receives a UK State Pension. She received a letter from the Social Security Administration detailing her entitlement. However we are confused as the amount has been reduced by two-thirds which would imply the Government Pension . . . Read More

Will The Income I Receive As A Foster Parent Affect My Disability Payments?
If I get aprove for disability .and why I was waiting to get approved I'm also a foster parent would that affect me from getting my back payment money because I was a foster parent getting income.
Hi. If what you've applied for is Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disability, then any kind of income that you receive could potentially affect your eligibility for benefits. But, if you've applied for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits then only earned income could potentially affect your eligibility.

Will My Monthly Benefit Amount Continue To Decrease Due To Lower Earnings?
Hello. I am 61 years old. Previous SS statements indicated I would receive approximately $1,800 monthly in SS benefits upon full retirement age as was indicated upon 42 years of earnings. Started work at age 15.
Due to cancer, I changed my career to a contract court reporter and earned much less - to decrease stress. The next SS statement indicated the SS benefits would be $1,600. I think it is due to the major decrease in earnings. I was previously an IT Project Manager earning $90k annually and stressed to the max!
Due to health issues, I’ve been told by an . . . Read More

How Do I Get Social Security To Give Me The Rest Of My Delayed Retirement Credits?
I started receiving SS benefits at age 62 in 2011 in the amount of 1,379. At age 66 (FRA) in February of 2016, I suspended my benefits for 22months. I started my benefits again in December 2017. I received a letter in June 2017 saying my 8% increase (1500 x 1.08) would increase to 1,625. 1,500 was the amount I was receiving at the time I suspected my payment. The 8% increase was for the 12 months I suspended in 2016. I never received a notice in 2018 for the 10 months I suspended in 2017 which would be a little short of 7%. I feel I’m entitled to the 10 months of DRC in 2017 . . . Read More

How Can I Receive Medicare Part B?
I am about to retire from my job. I am 70 yrs old. How can I receive Medicare part b. I'm already receiving ss check.
Hi. You'll need to file an application with Social Security. If you've had primary health insurance coverage through your job then you should be able to start Part B coverage as early as the month that you apply. People with employer group health plans (EGHP) get a special enrollment period (SEP) allowing them to sign up for Part B with no delay or premium penalty when their EGHP coverage ends.
However, if you haven't been covered . . . Read More

What Is The Best Time For My Wife To File For Her Benefits?
Hey Larry,
My wife is currently 60 and we are trying to make the smartest choice on when she should start collecting her Social Security. We are both retired currently. She was primarily a stay at home mom so her benefit for FRA is relatively small. Our main goal is that we don’t want her decision on whether to start at age 62 or wait until 67 to adversely effect her eventual spousal benefits.
I was the primary breadwinner. I am currently age 52 and want to make sure she gets the maximum possible benefits in the event that she outlives me as she has longevity in . . . Read More

Why Aren't My Part Time Earnings Causing My Benefit Rate To Increase?
I started collecting social security at 64 years old. Throughout my more than 40 working years i always paid the maximum FICA each year.
After retiring from my full time job at age 64 and starting to collect at that time, I worked part time with FICA taken out.
My question is why are these FICA contributions not adding to my retirement age with benefit increases that go along with it?
Can i opt out of paying FICA if i get no additional benefit from paying into it?
Hi. Social Security retirement benefits are based on an average of a person' . . . Read More
