Can I Get Any Financial Assistance For My Granddaughter?
I have legal guardianship of my granddaughter, both parents gave up parental rights. Can i get any financial assistance. I am disabled and on SSDI
Hi. Being the legal guardian for your granddaughter wouldn't make her eligible for benefits from your Social Security disability (SSDI) account. In order for a grandchild to potentially be able to qualify for Social Security benefits on the account of a grandparent, the child must either be adopted by the grandparent or both of the child's natural parents must have been deceased or disabled at the time that the . . . Do Royalties Affect Social Security Disability Benefits?
Do royalties Affect Social Security Disability Benefits?
Hi. Possibly, but probably not if the work that was done to produce the royalties was performed prior to your Social Security disability onset date. For example, say that a person wrote and sold a book to a publisher prior to becoming disabled. Assuming that the author isn't actively involved in promoting or selling the book at any point after his or her disability began, royalties received after that time could be excluded from counting as earnings Social Security disability benefit purposes.

Why Isn't Social Security Responding?
Why isn't SSI responding to my inquiries for widow's benefits? I've spoken to three agents for scheduled appointments, yet appointments are received as missed calls which go directly to my voicemail. I was told to call back, but my information is never kept on file.
Hi. I can't tell you for sure, but it sounds more like a problem with your phone if Social Security's calls are going directly to your voicemail. Maybe that's not the problem, though, if it isn't happening with calls you receive from other people. I don't know of anything else you can do other . . . Read More

Should My Husband Wait Until Next Year To Apply So That His 2021 Earnings Will Be Used To Calculate His Benefit Amount?
Hello again Larry.
Thank you for answering my recent question so quickly. It was very helpful. Since you answered it, another question has come up for my husband. He will be 70 in October, 2021 and planned on applying for his social security on his birthday. However, this year he will earn more working full time as a math teacher than any other year he has worked. So, should he wait until 2022 to apply so that his benefits will reflect the highest paying job? As I recall the SSA takes the highest of your earning years out of all that you have worked to compute your . . . Read More
