Can I Suspend My SSDI Benefits And Reinstate Them If I Have To Stop Working?

Hello, I am a 36 never married woman and no children. I am on ssdi and was approved 6-7 years ago for mental issues. I would like to go back to work but I am only qualified for higher level jobs(which is how I won ssdi).
Instead of doing a trial work period, then sga, and then epe; I would like to suspend ssdi a few months after working.
I have read about ssdi suspensions that can be reinstated with medical back up( like incarcerations). I have also read about early retirement suspending. However, all of those examples are for way older people.

What Am I Obligated To Pay Back?

I have lived as a caregiver for my mom fir the past 8 years and in the last couple took care of her bills as POA. Mom’s social security check was deposited on the third and her bills paid from it. Mom passed on the sixth this month and social security pulled back her direct deposit on the 15th putting her account overdrawn by the social security amount. What am I obligated to pay back?

I'm sorry for your loss.

It sounds like someone made a mistake with regard to your mother's benefit payment. The payment that was deposited on December . . . Read More

What Can My Sibling Do If Their Social Security Has Been Hacked And Paid To Someone Else?

My siblings’ social security has been hacked and was paid out to someone else for 1 year. They have stopped payments to this other person, however, it’s been three years that their case is still pending investigation and they need this money. Before the pandemic, They would go down to ss office where they were told each time that it is still in investigations and that they were not the only one going through this. They have also called the Washington DC office where they filed a complaint for them however, nothing has ever been done. What else can they do?

Will My Disabled Child Receive 50% Of My Age 62 Rate Or My Full Retirement Age Rate?

My DAC (he is 24 yrs with autism) will receive the 50% of my SSA benefits using my 62 early retirement benefits, or my 66 and 8 months FRB? The amount change considerable. Thank you in advance for your answer.

Hi,

Child benefits, including disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits, are calculated at 50% of a living parent's primary insurance amount (PIA), or 75% of a deceased parent's PIA. A person's PIA is equal to their Social Security retirement benefit rate if they start drawing their benefits at full retirement age (FRA).

If your FRA is 66 . . . Read More

Would It Be Better To Collect Survivor Benefits Or My Own SS When I Reach Full Retirement Age?

I started receiveing SSDI when I was 55 years old and continued until I turned 62. I started working again and, God willing, I will continue working until I reach full retirement age at 66 and 4 months. Will my SS benefits be reduced because of my years on SSDI?

I lost my husband five years ago and have not filed for survivor benefits because my benefits were higher. Since I have returned to work, I make too much money to receive any survivor benefits.

Would it be better to collect my survivor benefits when I reach full retirement age or my own SS?

Am I Entitled To Draw Social Security Now At Age 45?

I am 45 and my husband was 43 when he just passed away. Am i entitled to draw social security now or do I wait until I or his retirement age??

Hi,

I'm sorry for your loss.

You couldn't qualify for any monthly survivor benefits from Social Security now unless you have a child in your care who is either under age 16 or disabled, and who qualifies for child benefits on your husband's account. There is, however, a one-time death benefit of $255 for which you you could apply now (https://www.ssa.gov . . . Read More

Should I Apply For Mother's Benefits Given My Daughter's Intellectual Disability?

My daughter just turned 16. She is ADD dyslexic, and has intellectual disabilities. She was just tested through her school and has an IQ of 67. She currently receives survivor benefits from her father. She will be 19 during her 12th grade year. My morhers insurance stopped this month. 1. Should I apply for a mother's insurance now that she has been retested and seems like she would qualify as a disabled child,? 2. Should I file for disability for her at 18, or now, or wait until her survivor benefits expire? 3. I will be her caregiver for life - can I get a benefit in that . . . Read More

Does Social Security Count Gross Annual Earnings Or Is It Monthly?

Hi Larry,

I cannot get a straight and accurate answer from Social Security to save my life.

I took early retirement in 2019 at age 63, in March. I thought I understood the earnings limit, and had no idea that Restricted Stock Units (given in 2017) would be included in my W2 as total wages, as well as past earned vacation pay and sick time carried over from 2018 to 2019.

I applied for Waiver of Overpayment due to the incomplete answers I was given from SSA employees, no way to pay it back, and whether the income I received in the months PRIOR to me filing . . . Read More

Hi,

There's no limit on the amount of unearned income you can receive and still qualify for Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits. The only type of income that's limited when a person receives SSDI benefits is earned income, specifically wages or self-employment . . . Read More
