Can You Tell Me Why I Received An Extra Payment From Social Security?
I received an extra $400,00 in my account on Tuesday from Social Security office, its something I did not expect, I did not receive an explanation. Can you tell me what is going on?
Hi,
Sorry, but no I can't. There could be a number of different reasons for getting an extra one-time payment from Social Security, and I don't have enough information about your circumstances to know why you would have received one. Whenever Social Security does send someone a payment other than their regular monthly payment, they send a notice in the mail to explain . . . Read More

Did I Receive The Correct Information From Social Security?
Dear Larry, thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise and advise.
I have been married for 15 years - my husband is of full retirement age (BIRTH DATE 7/9/54) and has started to draw his social security benefits a few months ago. My birth date is 9/17/1955 and I want to work until I am 70 years of age to increase my benefit.
I had planned on drawing "Restricted application" on my Husband, when I reach my full retirement age in 12/2021, while still continuing to work until the age of 70. The Social Security Office told me today that this is not . . . Read More

Could Benefits Be Claimed Retroactively In This Case?
Hello,
Suppose Alice decides to take her Social Security retirement benefit in October. Then suppose that she and her husband Bill discover the following January that their adult child Chris, disabled since birth, can receive Disabled Adult Child benefits off her work record, and that Bill can also receive Child-in-Care benefits off her work record as well. Can Bill and Chris apply for their payments retroactive to Alice's start date in November or can their benefits only start after they apply in the following January?

Can I Borrow From My Social Security?
I'm in need of a loan asap can i borrow from my ssi
Hi,
No. Social Security is a social insurance program, not an individual retirement account that you can borrow against or withdraw. The contributions that you make to Social Security are taxes, and those taxes fund the payment of benefits to people who meet the requirements. That includes people who are disabled or are at least age 62, their dependents, and dependent survivors of a deceased parent, spouse, or child. There is no way to receive anything in return for the Social Security taxes that . . . Read More

Will The Total Benefit Amount Payable To My Children Stay The Same When The Oldest Two Are No Longer Eligible?
Currently collect $528 per child, 4 children, for a monthly child benefit of $2112. When the 2 oldest, twins, age out and graduate high school, will the two youngest benefits change to $1056 each, so that the monthly benefit remains the same? Or will the total monthly benefit drop down to $1056, the $528 per child for the remaining 2 children. And if the two remaining children now get $1056 each, do I have to inform S.S. Or will they figure it out when the two oldest are dropped. I get conflicting responses from S.S. i don't understand why. Thank you for you time and knowledge . . . Read More

Will I Lose My Disability Income If I Receive Spousal Benefits?
I have been on disability income for several years. I will soon turn 62. I know that I can receive spousal benefits from husband's SS.
Will I lose my disability income,?
Hi,
I can't give you a complete answer without more information. If what you're drawing is Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits, then you wouldn't lose those benefits if you qualify for benefits from your husband's Social Security record. Any Social Security spousal benefits for which you qualify would be paid in addition to your SSDI benefits. By the way, if you choose . . . Read More

Will I Be Able To Reduce My Medicare Premiums Based On Life-Changing Events?
First thank you very much for providing excellent service to the community. I am single. I have had a life changing event (loss of job in 2018) as per SSA-44. My MAGI from mainly earned income 2018 was about 200 k. However in 2019 it was about 40 k and in 2020 it would be again about 180k, in 2021 It is expected to be about 50k, -- all incomes from after 2018 being capital gain distribution. I will be eligible and take Medicare in 2021 due to SSDI and understand that my Medicare payments for 2021 will be at the lowest level because Medicare considers income from 2 years ago ( . . . It's highly probable. It sounds like your Social Security retirement benefit amount will be likely be lowered due to the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP). If a person . . . Read More
