Can I Draw Off Of My First Husand And Then Switch To Drawing Off Of My Last Husband When He Turns Age 62?

I have been married twice for more than 10 years and divorced. My last husband was the largest earner, but he is 10 years younger than me. Can I draw off my first husband and switch to drawing off my last husband when he turns 62? Thanks for the advice!

Hi. Yes, assuming that you meet the eligibility requirements (https://www.ssa.gov/OP_Home/handbook/handbook.03/handbook-0305.html), you could potentially collect divorced spousal benefits on one ex-husband's account initially . . . Read More

What Is My Best Option For Collecting U.S. Social Security, CPP & Canadian Old Age Security?

Larry I’ve been working in the USA since 2009 however until 2014 (obtained green card then citizenships) I was on a VISA so only contributing to social security since then.
I believe I paid CPP during the VISA years.
I had worked in Canada all of my adult life till 2009 approx 33 years.
My wife opted to take her CPP at age 60 as she had cancer.
She collected the small CPP pension and only worked for a couple months part time while we lived in Texas.
She was too sick to be able to work anyway for the last few years.
I was told she was not . . . Read More

How Can I Get Monies From My Social Security Work?

How can I get monies worked for from Social Security approx. from 1960-1972/4 yrs. and before monies were put into a pension (STRS) from 1965-2004.
Ret. teacher,

Hi. You can't get a refund of the Social Security taxes you paid if that's what you're asking. Social Security taxes are required to be paid on any Social Security covered wages regardless of whether or not the person who earned the wages ever becomes eligible for Social Security benefits.

If you had at least 40 quarters (QC) of Social Security covered earnings and if you're at . . . Read More

Can My Husband Start Drawing His Early Retirement While Waiting For A Determination On His Disability Claim?

I have a similar question to what was posted. My husband filed for disability 8 months ago at age 61. He is still waiting on a determination, but next month he will be 62. Can he start drawing his early retirement, or will that compromise his determination on his disability or have any other impacts? Since it's already been more than the disability 5 month waiting period, I assume there would not be any reduction of benefits if he should be awarded his disability??

Hi. Yes, your husband can apply for reduced retirement benefits while waiting for a . . . Read More

How Can I Get My Social Security Benefits?

How can i get my social security benefits

Hi. You can't be paid Social Security benefits unless you apply for them and you meet the eligibility requirements. You may be able to apply online on Social Security's website (https://www.ssa.gov/), or you can call Social Security to make an appointment to apply by phone.

Before applying, though, you may want to strongly consider using our software (https://maximizemysocialsecurity.com/purchase) to fully analyze . . . Read More

Does My Benefit Estimate On The SS Site Include 32% From DRCs?

Hello
My PIA at age 66 was $1211( 11/19). I am taking spousal benefits until 11/23 when I turn 70. The SS site I viewed before I took spousal stated at age 70 my payment is $1,641. Does this include 32% DRC's? I thought COLA's were added first to PIA and then the 32% DRC's are added to get your age 70 payment. Please clarify. Thanks so much.

Hi. I can't answer for the accuracy of the the benefit rate estimates you receive on Social Security's website. Here's what I can tell you. A person's primary insurance amount (PIA) is adjusted to include all . . . Read More

Why Is It A Mystery To Find Out When Some Delayed Retirement Credits Will Be Received?

I understand from your previous answers that:
1) Delayed SS credits accrued this year are not paid until January of next year.
2) This is calculated only every other year, so there can be a 12+ month wait.
3) No one knows what years the calculations occur.

If delayed credits are in fact calculated every other year, it seems this would imply a schedule.. Were they calculated last year? If yes, then they will not this year. If not calculated last year then they will this year. So why is it a mystery? Is there really no way to know what year delayed . . . Read More

Can I Invest Benefits Belonging To A Person For Whom I'm Acting As Representative Payee In Crytocurrency?

So in reading your article from last year on crypto currency’ I am confused. I act as a payee for a SSDI receiver. It is my understanding that monies spent must be reported to Soc Sec once a year. Their publications state that investments should be in secured places such as a bank acct or Savings Bonds. Crypto currency doesn’t seem to fall under this category. Yet with articles that state investing in crypto has no effect on monies received from ssdi, the disabled person is relentless in wanting more of his money to buy crypto. His monthly earnings aren’t even enough to meet . . . Read More

If A Person Marries And Divorces While Receiving DAC Benefits On One Parent's Account, Could They File For DAC Benefits On Another Parent's Record?

Hi Mr Larry.

I am the only survivor of my deceased parents. I am their daughter. I currently receive SSI Disability. I am not married. If a person married , and divorced while receiving DAC and Social Security Benefits on one parent's record , can the unmarried person file for the same thing on the other deceased parent's record as long as the Disabled Adult Child is unmarried ?

Thank you , Mr Larry

Hi. Yes. Getting married while receiving disabled adult child's (DAC) benefits terminates the DAC beneficiary's entitlement unless they marry . . . Read More

Is It Correct That I Must Wait Until Age 60 To Draw Benefits On My Husband's Account?

My husband passed away and I would like to draw my spousal benefit but I was told I have to wait until I turn 60. Is that correct? Keep in mind, I am 11 years younger than my deceased husband (I am age 67) and I have not gotten remarried. Also, is there any insurance advantage or benefit for widows?

Hi. I'm sorry for your loss. You say that you've been told you must wait until age 60 to qualify for widow's benefits, but then you say you are age 67. If you actually are age 67, then you've already reached full retirement age (FRA) for widow's benefits and . . . Read More
