Does It Sound Right That I Was Denied Widow's Benefits?

My husband passed away in May. He would’ve been 65 last November I applied for Social Security widows benefits , are children are grown. I still work, but don’t make as much money as he did. I plan to work another couple of years as I am 65 as well. My question is after I applied, I was denied because of the amount of money that I make. It’s not a lot of money it’s under 75,000 just doesn’t seem fair since he worked all his life and now I’m left with out half of. Does this sound right?

Can You Tell Me Which Is Right?

I am collecting widow's benefits in 2023 and the earnings cap is 21,240. I am inquiring if my HSA deductions will reduce the earnings. HSA deductions are not subject to FICA and therefore not part of Box 3 (SS Earnings) of the W2. You answered the following which contradicts the information I have. I'm new to this so want to make sure. Can you tell me which is right? Thank you.

Will I Be Subject To A Penalty If I Earn More Than The Limit In The Months Before I Reach FRA?

Hi Larry,
I reach FRA for SS in Dec 2022. Because I am still working will I be subject to penalty since I will make over 50K prior to Dec 2022. Thank you

Hi. No, assuming that you don't start drawing benefits prior to the month you reach full retirement age (FRA) . There is no limit on the amount that you can earn and still collect Social Security benefits starting with the month in which you reach FRA. The amount that you earn prior to then is irrelevant.

What Happens To My Benefits Once I Make Over The Alloted Amount?

My children and I receive SSDI auxiliary payments bc my ex husband is disabled if I go back to work what will happen to my benefits once I make over the allotted amount

Hi. Assuming you're under full retirement age (FRA), $1 of your benefits would be withheld for every $2 that you make in excess of the Social Security earnings test exempt amount. The exempt amount for people who will be under FRA throughout 2023 is $21,240.

Does The Pay Check I Receive On January 5th 2023 Count Toward My Monthly Limit For December 2022?

I am 62 and start receiving benefits in January 2023 for Dec 2022. I work part time and get paid every two weeks. In December 2022 I got paid on the 8th of Dec for pay period covering Nov 22, 2022 through Dec 5, 2022. I receive another pay check on Dec 22, 2022 for pay period Dec 6, 2022 through Dec 19, 2022 , and I will receive another pay check on 5 January 2023 for pay period Dec 20, 2022 through 2 Jan 2023. Does the pay check I receive on January 5, 2023 get counted towards my monthly earning limit for December 2022?

When Will My Payments Resume?

I am currently 65 was drawing early benefits and got cancer so I had to go back to work to pay the C bills. They stopped my SS payment because I was making over 19.5k this year. I turn 66-1/2 in AUG of 2023 so I went to SS to get my payments resumed for next year. My question is do my payments resume in JAN, Feb on my birthday or in AUG when I turn 66-1/2 and does the 2023 COLA apply to me? Thank You
