Which Of Social Security's Explanations Is Correct In My Case?

Hello ! My husband is an early retiree. I am getting spousal early retirement benefit. My husband adopted a disabled girl when she was 7 years old. At 18, she left the house and we never see her again.for about 12 years. The SSA told me that my spousal benefit is spit with her. ( in half) . I would like to ask if it is right. There were two different explanations at the SSA office. One said that my benefit will be spit with the girl. Another said the girl’s benefit is in different fund.
Please advise. Thank you very much!

How Is It That My Survivor Benefit Was Completely Offset Due To The Recent 8.7% Civil Service Retirement COLA?

How is it that my Social Security survivor benefit; ( offset to only $48 per month), that I received for only 10 months after being widowed for 8 years, was completely offset by the recent 8.7 % Civil Service Retirement COLA? Seems strange since Social Security received the same 8.7% COLA. Mathematically even Social Security stated that my benefit would be increased the same 8.7% and be increased to $52 per month in 2023, but due to the Government Pension Offset now be completely eliminated/ offset and I would receive no Social Security Benefit.

Do I Need To Notify SSA That I Don't Plan To Start Drawing Benefits At Full Retirement Age?

Hi, Larry,

Thanks for all that you do. A quick question to which a few internet searches have not turned up an answer: I plan on waiting until 70 to begin taking social security. Do I have to notify the SSA that I do NOT plan on beginning benefits at full retirement age (66.5, which for me is five months from now)?

Thanks,
Stuart

Will My Benefit Payment Be Doubled Next Month Because I Didn't Receive My Current Month's Direct Deposit?

I closed bank account. Did not receive direct deposit for February. Will my benefit check be double in March?
Thank you

Hi. If you had a benefit payment that was returned due to closed bank account, Social Security should reimburse you for that as soon as possible. They won't necessarily wait until your next month's payment is due before returning the returned payment to you.

How Can I Help My Daughter To Get Her SSI Payment Amount Increased?

Larry..I am not sure how to do this. I have an adult daughter who has been receiving SSI for many years due to OCD, etc. and she is the payee. It was originally $750 but has decreased for many years to $567. Her current mental state is not so good and she refuses to (or physically can’t) acknowledge that she needs to have it reviewed to have it increased. How can I go about it with the least amount of participation from her? Mary

Is The Flex Card Legit?

Is the flex card legit 70 years old I like to know

Hi. I'm sorry, but I have no idea what you are referring to by a "flex card". I'm only able to answer questions about Social Security benefits.

Best, Jerry
