Can MetLife Reduce My LTD Payments If I Claim Social Security Widow's Benefits?

I'm receiving Metlife LTD I paid for when employed by my employer. Now that I am 64, 65 in June, social security said I can collect my husband's (I'm a widow) social security; NOT SSDI OR Social security disability but his "social security widow benefits. I realize Metlife can reduce my disability by the amount I receive for SSDI or my husband's SSDI BUT this is social security retirement not disability. So can Metlife reduce their monthly payment to me by my husband's social security I would receive?

How Will My Social Security Be Affected If I Sell My House?

I am a widow on social security with xtra help, snap benefits, and draw a pension. If I sell my house how will my social security be effected?

Hi. Your Social Security benefits would not be affected by the sale of a house. However, both Medicare extra help and SNAP benefits are needs based, so those benefits could potentially be stopped or reduced if you sell your home.

Best, Jerry

Are There Advantages Or Disadvantages To Converting Our IRA/401K Buckets?

Thank you for sharing your expertise Larry. My wife and I have a few modest traditional IRAs with aprox $200k combined. We also have a 401K and a rollover IRA from my pension cash-out. Each of these has a little over $1m. I am 68 years old and plan to take my SS at 70. My SS earnings will be near the maximum. My concern is the tax implications of large RMD withdrawals after age 73. My countermeasure is to begin converting the IRA money to ROTH IRAs. I will keep the annual conversions at a modest level to manage the tax hit.

Is There Any Way That I Can Get More Than Six Months Of Retroactive Benefits?

I decided to postpone receiving my social security benefits until I was 70.

I was born in 1953. I was married more than 10 years. I did not realize until I applied for my benefits, that I could have been receiving benefits based on my ex husband's earnings. Is there any way I can acess more than 6 months of the benefits I did not receive?

Why Didn't Social Security Deposit My Disability Check?

I was born on the 27th of November. My disability check was supposed to be in my bank account yesterday. After thinking that I paid my bills I am now OVERDRAWN. I don't know what I can do with no money. The Social security administration has really screwed the pooch. I can't get ahold of the SSA. Why are they screwing people. I need money. I bet the government got there check. I am permanently disabled and my SSDI check is how I support myself and the government has messed things up.

Can I Get My Husband's Social Security Since He's In Prison?

My husband got a life sentence in prison. Can I get his social security now that I am 62 years old.

Hi. You can't collect your husband's actual Social Security benefits, but you could potentially claim spousal benefits on his record. However, as long as you're still married to your husband then the only way that you could qualify for spousal benefits is if your husband is at least technically entitled to either Social Security retirement or disability benefits.
