Social Security Overpayments

Will My Benefits Continue Or Will I First Have To Pay Back My Overpayment?

I started taking my surviving spouse benefits at age 60 was only working part time. I have a job now making over the allotted amount but SS kept sending checks, so now I apparently owe SS 7,000. If I go back to part time to make under the 19,000 cap, will my survivor benefits continue or do I have pay this overpayment back first? And how long will it take for SS to start payments back.

Why Am I Being Asked To Repay An Additional Overpayment?

I applied for survivors benefits at age 66 and was told that benefits start in January of the year I urned 66 (2017). Wrong, apparently I was supposed to wait until my 66th birthday, July 31st. Because of this incorrect information I was notified that there had been an $8,000 overpayment. SS has been taking out $50/mo to pay back the overpayment they caused by giving me incorrect info. I switched to my retirement this year when I turned 70.

Can Social Security Withhold Your Benefits If You Haven't Yet Had A Personal Conference?

Can SS withhold your pension for an overpayment even though you have not had a personal conference? SS has withheld my pension since Nov. 2021.I finally had a personal conference onJuly12,2022..My request for waiver was denied..Is “ not against equity and good conscience “extremely subjective on the part of the person conducting the conference. My next step is to request a hearing from a judge.I don’t know if I have the strength to do it.

Can Social Security Legally Require Me To Pay Back More After Telling Me That My Overpayment Balance Was Zero?

Hi Larry you answered my question earlier thus week. Great job, and TY. Guess what I paid my overpayment off in 2019, and have two letters showing they reduced my balance. Now 3 years later they came back with half after stating my bill is paid in full!! I paid them my reduced amount every month for like 2 years. See, this proves I am STILL sick as my more is not good. I don't even know how I could ever forget about it! Can they legally after reviewing my account years ago and setting up a payment arrangement for the balance then giving me a payment in full letter for this?

Will My Boyfriend Be Liable For My Social Security Overpayment If We Get Married?

About 10 years ago, I appealed an overpayment and asked for a hearing. I was in grad school at the time and the funding I got as a Teaching Assistant was misapplied as earnings. The TA-ship is a form of financial aid. I never heard back from Social Security and am no longer on disability. My boyfriend and I want to get married. Will he be held liable for any of these overpayment if Social Security gets around to reviewing my case?

I've been afraid to call and ask them directly because I am unemployed and they claim I owe them a substantial amount. Thanks.

Would I Get Back Pay If Social Security Incorrectly Suspends My Benefits Due To An Overpayment?

If I'm suspended for over payment, and SSD says I should have never been suspended, willing get back pay?

Hi. Yes, if Social Security withholds benefits to recover an overpayment and later determines that there was no overpayment, they would refund any benefits due that were withheld.

Best, Jerry
