Spousal Benefits

Is My Wife Eligible For A Higher Benefit On My Account?

My spouse and adopted son are disabled. She receives SSDI and he receives both SSDI and SSI as a Disabled Adult Chlid. Her earnings were not enough to eliminate his SSI. This has been the status for years. Recently I became disabled and have won an SSDI claim. My earnings and contribution to the Social Security system have been much greater. We have a meeting set with Social Security and expect our Son's SSI to be eliminated, his SSDI to increase significantly (almost double), etc. because of switching to benefits off of my entitlement.

If My Wife Files Her Benefits Early Will She Be Penalized When She Later Switches To Spousal Benefits?

I have your (revised) book and it is excellent. I have a question about spousal benefits - I am getting conflicting advice.

I was born in 1958 and she was born in 1959. My wife was a homemaker and has a much smaller expected PIA than me, so when I take retirement benefits her spousal benefit will be larger than her regular benefit. I am going to defer taking my retirement benefits until I am age 70 - to maximize my benefit and my surviving spousal (widow) benefit.

If I Start Drawing My Benefits Early Will It Affect What I'll Get When I Switch To Spousal Benefits?

I was born in 1956 and worked enough years to draw some social security benefits. My partner was born in 1954 and will be waiting until age 70 to start collecting social security. If I start to draw my own benefit now, will it affect the amount of my spousal benefit when I switch to half of my partners since that amount will be larger than mine.

Can You Explain Why My Claim For Spousal Benefits Was Denied?

Hi -I was denied spousal benefits and am not sure why. Firstly my spouse has been collecting SS since 3 plus years. Secondly we have been married 38 plus years and I sent my original document of proof, to them also. Thirdly I meet the min. age requirement as I was born 07/1955.
I applied at my full retirement age of 66 and 2 months.
I am a dual citizen of Canada and U.S.A and we have lived here since 1994 working and paying our taxes faithfully.

Can My Husband Apply For Spousal Benefits From My Account?

I am 42 and my husband is 69. He started receiving SSI before age 62 due to disability. When he turned 62 he was required to file for early retirement. He did not have enough credit because he was self employed. We have been married for 9 1/2 years. Can he apply for spousal benefits (because I have enough credits) if I am not at the age of entitlement?

What Will My Wife Receive When I Start Drawing My Benefits?

My wife of 25 years was born March 15, 1955. She began drawing benefits at FRA of $1150 per month. I was born 11/15/1955. My estimated benefits at full retirement are $2920. I do not intend to take my benefits until I am 70. My estimated benefits at 70 are $3820.

I am attempting to understand my wife’s spousal benefits. I understand my wife’s spousal benefits would be
half of $2920 or $1460. How does this work. When I draw at 70 will my wife be entitled to only $1460 or will she also be able to benefit from 4 plus years of COLA’s ( presuming COLA’s occurr)

Can You Confirm That My Wife Will Be Allowed To Collect Half Of What I Receive?

My wife took early social security at reduced rate age 64. Her birth date ie 7/16/1953. I plan to retire this December at 66 and 2 months my full retirement date(10/20/55. I have been told by SS that my wife due to her birth date will be allowed to collect on my SS at 1/2 what I received
Which will be a tremendous increase. Can you confirm this and explain why .
Thank You
