Spousal Benefits

Is It True That I Can Apply For Spousal Benefits At Any Age If I'm Caring For A Disabled Child?

I have started the process to apply for Spousal Social Security. I will be 62 in November. I've read that if I'm caring for a disabled child I can apply at any age. Is that correct? I'm being told now that my benefits will be reduced and probably eliminated because of my provincial pension I receive here in Canada. Just looking for some clarification. Thanks

Can My Wife File For Spousal Benefits From My Account Even Though I'm Not Old Enough For Benefits?

My wife turned 62 this year and started taking SS benefits, about $800/month. I'm 55 so I won't be taking benefits for at least another 7 years (although I am retired, lucky me, so no wage income). Can (and should) she file for spousal benefits? My FRA benefit is currently calculated at about $3,000/month so even if she only gets the difference between her benefit and 50% of mine, that's still an extra $700/month she could be getting, if I understand spousal benefits which is a big if. Or is she only eligible for spousal benefits AFTER I start drawing my own SS benefits?

Is It True That You Can Draw Half Of Your Spouse's Social Security Before You Reach Full Retirement Age?

Larry hello. My question is this. I have heard that you can draw half of your spouses Social security before you reach full retirement age. Is that true.
And if I am on disability right now and I just turned 62. Can I do that. I was also made to understand that it's only until you reach Full retirement age then you have to choose and most people choose the higher of the two benefit amounts.
Thank you. I cannot tell you how much I admire and appreciate what your doing. Trying to get some straight answers from Social Security

What Does My Wife Need To Do To Collect Spousal Benefits?

I will be filing for SSI to commence at my FRA (66 and 2 months). my wife who is older has been collecting a small SSI of her own for 5 years. I want her to now collect the spousal benefit which will be higher. What does she, or I, need to do to make this happen. i.e. does she need to file for it or will it happen automatically
