Is There Any Way For Me To Be Able To Get A Replacement Social Security Card?

I have a state issued ID, but need to replace my social security card. I am a permanent resident but my residential card is expired. I do have a w-2 with my current employer. Is there anyway for me to get a replacement social security card?

Hi. Social Security won't accept expired documents as evidence. The exact types of proof that you'll need to show Social Security in order to obtain a replacement card depends on several factors, so I would suggest reviewing the following Social Security website: https . . . Read More

Would It Be Best For Me To Draw My Social Security Benefits Early And Wait Until Age 67 To Claim My Railroad Retirement Benefits?

I have 25 years with the railroad. But before I came to the railroad I have 17 years with Social Security. Is it best that I draw my Social Security and then wait until I reach the age of 67 to get my full benefits from the Railroad RRB

Hi. My expertise is limited to Social Security (SS) benefits, not Railroad Retirement (RR) benefits. The extent of my knowledge about RR benefits is that if you claim both SS & RR benefits, the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) will offset your Tier 1 RR benefits dollar for dollar by the amount of your SS benefit.

What Will Happen To The Benefits That The Woman I'm Living With Receives If We Get Married?

I live with a woman I would like to marry but she receives benefit from her husband who was a veteran and passed away with Agent Orange. I am a retired veteran who has a 40 percent disability and she would receive far less from me since he was 100 percent disabled when he passed away.
My question is would she lose the benefit from her husband if we married and only receive benefit from my disability or retain her benefit from her husband without application for mine. There is no Common Law Marriage in Florida. I am 81 years old and she is 70 and born October 7th, 1950. . . . Read More

Is The SSA-2 The Correct Application Form?

I have printed out the SSA-2-BK form. I am now 83 years old and my first husband to whom I was married for 30 years has died. I am still married to my second husband. I was 60 when we married. My understanding is that I can receive Soc Sec benefits off of my first husband's name now and receive more than my approximately 500.00 a month benefit.
Is the SSA-2-BK the correct form. I have my divorce papers, but do not have my first marriage certificate. He kept it and it cannot be found by my children . Any information as to what I should do would be appreciated. Thank you, . . . Read More

Can I Collect Both My Disability Benefits And Benefits From My Ex-Husband's Record?

Dear Larry. I currently am on disability, I just turned 61. My spouse made more money than I did. What happens when I turn 62 next year. What happens to my disability?. Can I collect both or will I automatically start getting my Social security?

Hi. My answer assumes that your ex-husband is still living. You can't collect both Social Security disability (SSDI) benefits and a full divorced spousal benefit at the same time. Assuming that you meet the other requirements for divorced spousal benefits ( . . . Read More

Is It True That If I Don't File For Early Retirement Benefits Social Security Will Stop My SSI?

IM ON SSI AND SOCIAL SECURITY CALLED ME AND SAID SINCE IM 62 Y/O AND QUALIFY FOR EARLY RETIREMENT I MUST RETIRE NOW.....OR THEY WILL STOP MY SSI BENEFITS. THEY SAID IT WAS THE LAW.......IS THIS TRUE? THANK YOU

Hi. Yes. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a needs based benefit administered by Social Security. SSI is intended as a last resort source of support for people who are disabled, blind, or at least age 65. In order to qualify for SSI, a person must file for any other type of benefits for which they may qualify, including Social Security. So, . . . Read More

If My Husband Dies Do I Receive His Amount If They're Higher Than Mine?

Hi Larry, If my husband dies, do I receive his monthly benefits if they are higher than mine. Explain widow's benefits please.

Hi. The answer to your question if basically yes, assuming that you've already reached your full retirement age (FRA) at the time of your husband's death. It gets more complicated if your husband dies before you reach FRA, in which case your widow's rate may or may not be reduced for age depending on whether or not your husband started drawing his Social Security retirement benefits prior to FRA.

At Full Retirement Age Will I Be Able To Collect My Social Security And 50% Of My Ex-Spouse's Social Security?

At my full retirement age will i be able to collect my social security and 50% of my exes? Basically can I collect both or just 1?

Hi. No, you can't collect more than one full Social Security benefit at the same time. Assuming that you were born after January 1 1954, whenever you apply for either your own Social Security retirement benefits or for divorced spousal benefits you'll be deemed to be applying for both benefits. You could then only be paid essentially the higher of the 2 benefit rates, and your benefit amount would be reduced for age if you . . . Read More

If My Wife And I Get Divorced Or Separate, Will My Wife Still Be Able To Claim Spousal Benefits?

Hi Larry:
I will be 70 in Sept of 2021. My wife will be 74 in Aug 2021. I have not claimed SS yet, my wife has no errand credits on her own so will only be able to claim spousal benefits. We were married Nov 2014. If we get divorced or separate before I turn 70, will my wife be able to claim spousal benefits? If we get divorced or separate after I start collecting SS and my wife starts spousal benefits but less than 10 years of marriage, will my wife lose her spousal benefit? Thank You.
Craig
