No, your wife won't automatically start drawing spousal benefits when you start drawing your benefits. Your wife will need to file an application for spousal benefits even though, technically, she was deemed to also be applying for spousal benefits when she applied for her own . . . Read More

Will I Get My Social Security Payments On The 1st Of The Month From Now On?

I always got my SSDI check on the 3rd of every month My first check under my reg SS started on Aug 1 and I got paid on the 1st will this be my date for checks from now on? My friend had the same situation but they didn't change the date of his pay why?

Hi,

No. The regular payment date for Social Security payments is never earlier than the 3rd day of a month. Social Security sometimes pays benefits earlier than that if the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday, but that doesn't explain why you were paid on August 1st since the 3rd of August didn't fall . . . Hi,

Your wife can apply for spousal benefits, but unless she has a child in her care who's eligible for benefits on your record she couldn't get spousal benefits at least until she reaches age 62. A person can't collect non child-in-care spousal benefits prior to age 62 even if they're disabled.

If your wife applies for spousal benefits at age 62 or later, she'll . . . Read More
