If I Don't Remarry Will I Be Able To Collect A Divorced Spousal Benefit In Addition To My Own Benefit?
In 2016 I ended my 30-year marriage. I was born in 1961 and continue to work; he was born in 1958 continues to draw SSI due to late onset blindness, although he worked more than 40 quarters before collecting SSI.
Questions:
If I don't remarry, will I be allowed to collect a spousal benefit at age 66 and 10 months, in addition to my Social Security retirement benefit?
Same question but what if I wait until I'm 70 or 72?
What if I begin collecting SS Retirement at age 66 and 10 months, but remarry shortly thereafter?
Thank you for your help, . . . Read More

If I Reapply For Spousal Benefits WIll I Lose The Retroactive Benefits I've Been Paid?
SS has denied my spousal benefits. I am 68, married 39 years to the same man. They informed me on the site I could re-apply. They have sent two letters with conflicting info regarding my benefit, the second less than the first. They have deposited a retro benefit which I fought for through phone calls to the national ss office, after being turned down for the retro at the local office. I am so weary of being jerked around by these people, I think that is their strategy. If I do as they say and I re-apply, will I lose the retro benes? I originally applied early December 2019. . . . Can I Receive Social Security Retirement And Workers Compensation Benefits At The Same Time?
I'll be 66 this year and I'm on workers comp benefits can I receive social security retirement benefits and workers comp benefits at the same time
Hi,
My only area of expertise is Social Security benefits, so all I can tell you for sure is that if you receive workers compensation benefits it would have no adverse effect on your Social Security retirement benefits. I don't know whether or not receipt of Social Security retirement benefits might have any effect on your workers compensation benefits. Workers compensation laws vary by state, so you may . . . Should My Wife File For Social Security Now At Age 62 If She's On Dialysis?
My wife is on dialysis and just started receiving disability. She is 62. Should she file for Social Security now
Hi,
I'm sorry to hear about your wife's health problem.
There are too many variables involved for me to be able to give you a yes or no answer to your question. If your wife files for her Social Security retirement benefits at age 62 her benefit rate will be reduced by as much as roughly 28%, and that rate reduction would continue for as long as she lives. You and your wife may want to consider using our software ( . . . Read More

Hi,
I'm sorry, but my only area of expertise is Social Security benefits so I can't answer questions about stimulus payments. The IRS has set up the following website with information about stimulus payments: https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments.

If I Die Can My Wife Suspend Her Benefits And Draw Widow's Benefits Instead?
Hello Larry, My wife and I were both born in 1953. Our PIA's are almost the same. She began her benefit in 2019 and I started my spousal benefit based on her record, deferring mine until I turn 70. If I should pass before then, can she suspend her benefit, take a widow's benefit and let hers accumulate DRC's until she turns 70?
Hi,
No. Once a person files for their own Social Security retirement benefit that becomes their primary benefit for life. If you died, your wife could file for widow's benefits if your rate is higher than hers, but her own . . . Read More

Will I Automatically Receive My Child's Stimulus Payment In My Bank Account As His Payee?
If my child is a minor and he is on ssi and I'm his payee do I automatically get the stimulus payment in my bank account?
Hi,
I'm sorry but I'm unable to answer your question. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, and stimulus payments are not paid by Social Security. However, Social Security has established the following website with information regarding stimulus payments: https://www.ssa.gov/coronavirus/.

Will Social Security Recalculate My Benefit Rate If I Fix My 2016 Tax Obligation?
I retired 2016 officially at 62 years. I have enough credit in yearly estimates that Social Security used to send me of about $800. But I have yet to collect a penny yet. The letter I got is they cannot pay me because I was working 2016 and did not fill tax for that year. That was the only year I missed in over 25 years. So if I fix my 2016 tax obligation, are they going to recalculate my retirement from the year I retired or how are they going to calculate my retirement benefit.

If you worked for wages in 2016 then your employer would have been . . . Read More

Can I Pay My Phone Bill With My Child's SSI?
Can I pay my phone bill with my childs ssi ? We have alot of appointments so was wandering is it was we kinda need the phone
Hi,
I assume you mean that you are the representative payee for your child. Your responsibility as a representative payee is to use your child's benefits for his or her current needs, and save any remainder for future needs. If the child lives in your household, you can use the child's benefits to pay for his or her reasonable share of household expenses.
I would think that Social Security would consider a phone as a . . . Read More
