Can I Get Some Of My Deceased Ex's Social Security?

Can I get some of my ex's social security since he has passed away ??

Hi. Maybe. You need to have been married for at least 10 years, and you need to be at least age 60 or at least age 50 and disabled. You also need to be unmarried unless your current marriage occurred after you turned age 60. And, if you're drawing your own Social Security benefits you can only qualify for survivor benefits if your survivor rate is higher than your own benefit rate.

How Do I Make Sure Social Security Hasn't Made Any Mistakes In My Case?

I have been collecting survivors benefits for a few years now. I turn 65 tomorrow. When I filed gif survivors benefits I was told to keep collecting it until I reach full retirement age and I’ll receive a larger monthly amount. I just read one of your articles about SSA mistaking filed some peoples for their benefits when they were receiving benefits from spouse and got cheated out of future larger payment. How do I endure something like this tied to happen to me. It seems that based upon your article there are mistakes made by SSA and not easily rectified if fixable at all. . . . Read More

Can I Start Collecting Social Security At Age 62 And Still Work My Full-Time Job?

I turn 62 in 2024. Can I start collecting social security and still work my full time job?

Hi. That depends on how much you earn. In 2022, people who are under full retirement age (FRA) that receive Social Security can earn up to $19,560 without losing any of their benefits. If they earn more than that, $1 of their benefits is withheld for each $2 that they exceed the limit (https://www.ssa.gov/benefits/retirement/planner/whileworking.html). The exempt amount is higher in the . . . Read More

Will I Be Able To Collect Spousal Benefits If I Fall Under The Windfall Elimination Provision?

I fall under the windfall elimination provision, will I be able to collect spousal benefits? 50% of my husband's SS is much more than what I'll collect on mine.

Hi. That depends on what type of non-covered pension you receive. If you receive a pension based on your earnings from a governmental agency in the U.S. (e.g. local, county, state, federal) and if those earnings were exempt from Social Security taxes, then any Social Security spousal or survivor benefits for which you'd otherwise be eligible would almost certainly be offset by 2/3rds of the amount . . . Hello I'm 63 and 9 month old can I retired now are later at 66 year old, will any money be taking out, because I'm waiting and will I have to stop working for six month after receiving my retirement

Hi. I'm not sure that I'm clear on what you're asking. If you were born in 1958, then your full retirement age (FRA) for Social Security retirement benefits is 66 & 8 months. If you start drawing your benefits before then, your benefit rate will be reduced for age and some or all of your benefits may need to be withheld if you earn too much ( . . . Read More
