Would My Wife Qualify For My Benefits If She Becomes A Citizen Of Spain?

My spouse is a Mexican national who lived in US for almost 20 years after a deportation. She has been living outside the US for the past 3 years and is currently in the process of obtaining Spanish Citizenship. Would she qualify for my Social Security benefits in lieu of her immigration problem in US?
I understand US makes it much easier for EU citizens.

Thank You

Larry,
I took your advice...I contacted my congresswoman regarding my delayed disability back pay. 10 calendar days after contacting her office, I got paid. Her office accomplished what I was unable to do for 8 months. I just wanted to thank you for your assistance!!! Bravo!!

Hi,

You're welcome. Even if it was only coincidental that you got paid so soon after contacting your congresswoman's office, I'm glad it worked out.

Will I Get To Keep My Divorced Spousal Benefits If My Ex Is Incarcerated?

Hello:
I have been collecting the "Divorced Spouse Benefits" for a couple of years now.
The marriage lasted well over 10 years & the divorce was well over 2 years ago.
I understand that I am what is called "Independently Entitled".
Does it means that my ex' whereabouts do not matter?
I learned that he is going to be jailed for a long time.
Am I going to be able to keep the benefits while he is incarcerated?
Thank you

If You Receive SSDI Do You Need To Tell Social Security If Someone Moves In With You?

On ssdi you have some move in with you do i need to report it

Hi,

If all you receive is Social Security disability (SSDI) or any other type of Social Security benefit, then no. A person's living arrangements have no bearing on their Social Security benefits.

However, living arrangement changes can affect a person's eligibility or payment rate for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), so if you receive SSI benefits and if someone moves in with you you need to report that fact to Social Security.

Can My Boyfriend And I Qualify For Our Social Security Without Being Married?

Boyfriend and I have been together 40 yes can we qualify for our ss without being married

Hi,

You and your boyfriend could potentially qualify for any Social Security benefits to which you're entitled based on your own earnings histories, but it's unlikely that you could qualify for spousal or survivor benefits on each other's records. However, if your relationship is recognized as a legal marriage under state law, such as a common-law marriage, you may then be able to qualify for spousal or survivor benefits.

Is It Proper To Subtract My SS Amount From My Short Term Disability?

I been working full time and drawing my SS. Through my company I paid for short term disability. Recent I'm on medical leave Cigna is telling me they need to use my SS amount and subtract that from my weekly payment. I could understand if I was on SS DISABILITY but I receiving my retirement pay. Please advise

Hi,

I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, and any benefits you can receive from CIgna depends on the terms of your policy with them.
