Spousal Benefits

Shouldn't My Remarried Wife Be Able To Receive Spousal Benefits?

How can my re-married wife receive spousal benefits? She is 66 and still working, I am 67 and am already retired and I am receiving Social Security. We were married for 39 years then we divorced. Last year we remarried. Last month my wife applied for SS spousal benefits, she wants to continue working till age 70 and then apply for her own SS benefits.

Am I Correct?

Hello Larry, my question regards both the "Restricted Application for Spousal Benefits" and "Excess Spousal Benefits" for my wife when I file at age 70. I turned 62 in 2015 and no longer work.

My wife is 3 years older than I and she filed for retirement benefits on her own work record at age 62. Am I correct about the following:

Could My Future Wife Receive Spousal Benefits Once We're Married?

Larry, I just discovered your page and have a couple of questions.
1.My future wife, age 52, went on disability in 2016 after a lifetime of work and 4 back surgeries.
Once we are married, she draw spousal benefits once I retire at FRA at Age 66 without it affecting her disability?

2. She also has full custody of her two elementary age grandkids. Would her disability income be be added to mine to determine our maximum family benefit?

Can My Wife Get Spousal Benefits?

I am 70 and my wife is 64. We both started SS benefits at 62. We never thought about spousal benefits, until we saw your website.
I get a SS gross of $1545 and she gets a gross of $1490. A $55 difference.
Can she get a spousal benefit of $55 more and maybe even a retroactive amount?

Will My Spousal Rate Be Affected By The Fact That My Husband Filed Before Full Retirement Age?

My husband is retired and started taking social security at age 65. I will be full retirement age in August (born in '52). At that time, I am planning to file for a restricted application for spousal benefits only and delay my retirement benefits til age 70. Does it matter that he was not at full retirement age when he started receiving his benefits? And are there particular documents that you must have or show when you apply? Is it best to go to SS or can I do this on-line and how can I find the form? Thanks.

Do I Have To Be Deceased In Order For My Wife To Qualify For Child-In-Care Spousal Benefits?

I am currently 61 years old with a 30 year old disabled from birth son and wife who turns 62 in Jan 2019. I will retire this June 2018. I turn 62 in August 2019 when I file for SS benefits starting Sept 1 2019 will my wife be able to file for child in care benefits ? I was told that that only applies when the husband is deceased. With a full retirement of $2796 and a family max of $4892 the SS office told me I would receive $2038 at age 62. My son would receive 50 % of my Full Retirement amount $1398 and my wife would receive 37.5% or $1048.

What Are The Rules For Filing A Restricted Application For Spousal Benefits?

I turn 66 on November 1, 2018 and my wife turns 66 on December 17, 2018. We are both still working and intend to continue working until we reach 70. What is the procedure for filing a RESTRICTED APPLICATION for Spousal Benefits? If we are able to begin collecting some Social Security in December 2018 (or January 2019) it will greatly improve our financial picture as it will allow us to accelerate (and thereby eliminate) the remaining debt that we currently have, including finishing off our mortgage, by our 70th birthdays.

Will My Wife Get 50% Of My Age 70 Rate Or 50% Of My FRA Rate?

Hi Larry

I do not intend to file for social security until I am 70. My wife does not have enough points to receive any social security of her own. My question is, will my wife get 50% spousal benefit of my 70 benefit amount, or will she get 50% spousal benefits base on my FRA of 66 and two months. We are both 62, I am retired living off of a company pension, she has a part time job. We are aware she cannot draw benefits until I start drawing benefits.
