Hi,
I am on Soc Sec Disability. I am divorced, but was married for 17 years. He has been working a really good job right now. Can I somehow use this to recalculate my SSDI?
Can you get disability if you have never worked and are only 25?
Hi,
Hello, I am currently getting SSDI and Long Term Disability from Metlife which came from my work as I left due to cancer. Metlife took my SSDI check and adjusted my income so that the total matches 1500 per month including my SSDI. My husband has SSDI as well as he is legally blind but sadly, he also has cancer. We found out from Social Security that I would be eligible to get his check should e pass away, but my check would stop. However, does this mean that Metlife can also stop paying me my LTD as a result of me getting my husband's benefit?
Hi,
I retired at age 62 under the windfall elimination plan. I am now 68 and disabled. Is there any benefit to applying for social security disability?
Hi,
No. People can't become entitled to Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) after they reach full retirement age, and your retirement benefit rate wouldn't increase if it was established that you are now disabled.

I’m collecting Soc. Sec. Dis. But entered a contest to win a kitchen makeover thinking the prize was an actual remodel but found out its actually $250,000.00 cash to use to do a kitchen. Will winning effect my Soc. Sec. as just a single person vs. opening a Family trust with my children.? I would use some on a kitchen & give some to my son & daughter for house down payments for houses. Help?
Hi,
Congratulations, that should be quite a kitchen.
Hi Larry,
Hi!
I am 37 and currently receive both SSD and SSI benefits. I'm unable to work due to, among several other things, almost daily migraines.I was considering taking a single class per school semester (online) as it feels like something I could manage on my not so bad days. However, I'm worried this will affect my benefits.
I want to keep my life moving forward in hopes of getting well enough to get back out into the workforce, but I don't want to endanger my current stability. Am I safe to take a class?
Thanks for your help!
My questions are simple but the answer(s) are elusive online, even on the official SSA site(s).
Background info you first need is as follows;
My wife gets both SSDI and SSI. I get SSDI. Our 2 children draw a check each off my SSDI called either Disability insurance or OASI.
If I am 58 and currently receiving SSI Disability checks of around $1200 per month, will pulling out a personal loan of 40k to help pay for my daughters wedding decrease my monthly SSI payments?
Hi,
Assuming that you are receiving Social Security disability benefits (SSDI) and not Supplemental Security Income (SSI), then the answer to your question is no, taking out a loan wouldn't have any effect on your benefits.

Hello Larry: I am a 60 year old woman (DOB 7/17/1957), who is currently collecting Social Security Disability. I am also collecting benefits on my former employers long-term disability insurance policy. These private insurance benefits end when I am 65. During most of my previous employment, I worked for the government and therefore did not contribute to SS. Unfortunately, I became disabled before I was vested in the State pension system, so I have no pension benefits.
Results will differ based on your specific case and filing strategy.
