How Are My Disability Benefits Calculated?

Larry, I'm a 52 year old single male - never married- and I started SSDI when I was 51. At a minimum, I'll be on SSDI for two years. My monthly SSDI payments are $2670. I only have 34 years of covered earnings of which 8 of those I earned less than $10,000/year. My top earning year was 2015 and I earned $125,317. How many years of work did SSA use to calculate my SSDI benefit? Is there a table or formula where I can look up this information? (It must be somewhere.) If I return to work how will my SS payments be impacted when I'm 62, at FRA or 70?

How Is The Trial Work Period Determined?

I am wanting to start working to see if I can get off of SSDI. Ideally, I would like to use my Trial Work Period months to earn the maximum I can i.e. I would rather use a month in which I earn $2000 vs $850. I may have a work place that is willing to pay me out about 2-3 x year so that I can have higher earnings per month. Is this ok? I am not sure how social security will count "earnings"-is it when I actually get paid or the months in which I worked the hours.

Why Does Social Security Say That I'm Not Eligible For Disability Benefits?

Hi, My name is Kim and I'm 48 years old.
I have a question about Disability and Work Credits. I have a Severe Immune Disease called Lupus, Spinal Stenosis, Osteoarthritis, Severe Migraines and so my Lupus Specialist suggested that i apply for disability. I did so and was denied. I appealed, but was still denied again. They said i had enough skills to find some kind of employment. At this time, I was bedridden and on infusions, but they insisted that i could work.

What Happens Now?

I am a North Dakota news, living in Rochester, MN, because of severe Chrohns Disease. I am also a widow and am collecting my husbands' widows survivors benefits, since I turned 60. I am 62 now. Because of several chronic illnesses, I have been going through the SSA Disability Benefits process, since August, 2013. Today in my bank account I received a large amount of SSA benefits, in addition to my widows benefits. I assume, that after all thus time, medical issues, costs, and proof of several chronic conditions, that I was approved for disability benefits. What happens now?

Will Marriage Affect My Disability Benefits?

I am 60 yrs old and receive SS disability. I got engaged over the Holiday. If I get married will my SS disability benefits decrease? Should I file separately or jointly?
Also, if I choose to take some money from my 401k how will this additional income affect my SS disability?

Hi,

Neither marriage nor withdrawing money from a 401k plan would have any affect on your Social Security disability benefits, assuming that your disability benefits are based on your own earnings history.

Will My Disability Benefits Be Cut?

I have a serious disability and have been on disability for six years. Will I get grandfathered in from having cuts made to my monthly check

Hi,

I can't guarantee anything, but I haven't heard of any proposals that would cut benefits for current beneficiaries. I would be extremely surprised if anything like that happened in the future.

Best, Jerry

Can I Work Without Jeopardizing My Disability Benefits?

I was recently (and quickly) approved for disability benefits, starting June 2017 (after 5-month waiting period). My disability actually started back in 2013 when I was diagnosed with late-stage cancer, but I continued to (try to) work through surgery, chemo, more surgery, more chemo. During this time, I did manage to earn over $1,130 most months, so my onset date doesn't begin until now. This waiting period is tough, as I have no other income source and am single. So my question is: Can I earn a little income during this five-month period, as long as it's under $1,130?

Did Social Security Make A Mistake In Calculating My Disability Benefits?

I have been awarded with SSDI in april 2016 . The SSA established a $ 301.00 monthly benefits by computing my earnings
and divide them by past 20 years . The problem here is that , I have arrived in US ( first time ever )and start to earn a income IN THE YEAR OF 2005 ( SEPTEMBER ) . THEN , THE SSA SUPPOSED TO COUNT AND DIVIDE MY TOTAL EARNINGS BY 10 YEARS , INSTEAD . THAT WOULD DOUBLE MY MONTHLY AMOUNT . WHAT I HAVE TO DO TO CLAIM THAT THEY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE WHEN ESTABLISHED MY SSDI PENSION ?
Thank you , in advance .
A.
