Can I Stop My Disability Benefits And Apply For Benefits On My Husband's Record?

I am 62 an on SSDI. My husband is 58 and retired from the post office. Can I stop my disability benefits and apply for benefits on his record. Thank you.

Hi. You can't voluntarily stop getting Social Security disability (SSDI) unless you withdraw the original claim that you filed and repay all of the benefits you've received. My expertise is limited to Social Security benefits, so if your husband is eligible for a pension other than Social Security then I wouldn't know what options you may have with regard to receiving benefits from his pension plan.

If I'm Approved For Disability Benefits Would It Benefit Me To Withdraw My Retirement Application?

Dear Larry,

I have a complicated set of scenarios and need your advice. I bought your Maximize software but what I have in mind is beyond the average strategy.

For financial reasons… I filed online two months ago (Aug 2021) for both my Retirement and Disability simultaneously. I was 64.8 yrs old, divorced (over 10 yrs of marriage). The Retirement was immediately granted and I’m waiting on the decision regarding the Disability. I have no doubt that I will be granted Disability and receive twelve months back pay.

If I File For My Own Benefits At Age 62 And If My Spouse Dies Before I'm FRA, Can I Wait Until FRA To Apply For Survivor Benefits?

I will claim my own SS Benefits at age 62. If my husband dies before I am FRA, how much time do I have to file for survivor benefits? Do I have to do it right away, or can I wait until I am FRA? What if there are several years in between my husband's death and my FRA?

Hi. If you're drawing your own Social Security retirement or disability benefits and if your spouse dies before you reach your full retirement age (FRA), then yes you would have the option of waiting until your FRA to claim unreduced survivor benefits.

Can I File For A Widow'Benefit?

My husband died at the age of 61. I am 54 years old. He worked full time and I work part-time. He paid most of the bills; rent, car pymt, etc.

I don't make enough money, can I file for social security widow benefit? I don't have any disabilities. Our two daughters are over 21 and attend college. One works part-time and the other is a full-time student.

Should I Withdraw My Application For Retirement So That I Can Accrue The 8% From FRA To 70 Yrs Old?

This is a bit complicated but... I signed up online for both Retirement and Disability at age 64.6 yrs old. The Retirement started paying before the Disability was approved. Once the disability is approved should I withdraw my application for Retirement so that I can accrue the 8% from FRA to 70 yrs old? Also in the mix, my ex-husband (we were married for 13 yrs) is unwell, how will all this play out if I switch to Widows at FRA? My own Retirement would be higher than the Widows if I let it build up to age 70. Not sure how to juggle all this. Please advise... Thank you

Can I Receive My Full Social Security Benefits At Age 70 If I Am Still Working In Canada?

Can I receive my full Social Security benefits at age 70 if I am still working in Canada?

Hi. Yes, assuming that you've earned enough U.S. Social Security credits to qualify for benefits. Earnings in any amount wouldn't affect your ability to collect U.S. Social Security benefits once you reach full retirement age (FRA) no matter where you're working.

Can My Wife File For Her Own Benefits Or For Spousal Benefits Age 62 And Switch To The Other Benefit Later?

I turn 70 in a few months and plan to begin my full SSI monthly payment then…My wife is over a decade younger…As it stands—and likely will continue—My full SSI payment at 70 will be > double hers at 70, let alone at 67 or 62…When she turns 62 in a few years can/should she begin taking her retirement then and then change to half of mine at age 67 or 70?…Or can/must she begin taking mine at 62 or 67 and then switch to hers at 70 if she’s trying to maximize her payment…As a busy Mother she unfortunately was home lots and couldn’t accrue the near maximal SSI payment I could and a

Will My Wife Get Half Of My Benefit If She Takes Her Own Benefits At 62 And Later Switches To Spousal Benefits?

My wife's expected social security benefit is less than half of mine. If she claims her benefit at age 62, and then switches to a spousal benefit at age 67 when I claim my social security. will she get half of my benefit or will it be reduced from that level because she started at age 62.?
