I recently applied for SSDI. Ity would be 1024.00 a month. Which isn't a lot, but my children are there for me. They kind of pushed me into that direction due to I have emphysema and mvp. However, even though it's not curable I do feel I can get better. I thought I will be this be cured and call the said and say give it to someone who needs it. I recently found out that i could receive 900 a month from my husbands SSI. Could I take that and cancel the disability all the way till I reach 67, where my retirement is 1,074.00?
I’m almost 60 and dating a 63 year old man. We’re both divorced and were each married to other people for 20+ years. We would like to access divorced spousal benefits and would we also be able to claim widow(er) benefits if we got married now? And when and how should we access the divorced spousal benefits?
I turn 70 on April 11.
I want to max my earnings. I will apply online. should i ask for april or may for first check. thank you.
Robert
Hi Robert. On your application, you should elect April as your month of election to start benefits. Social Security pays April benefits in May, though, so your first payment won't arrive until May.
Best, Jerry
Hello: IM 62 and my husband is 68 he is on his full retirement and gets 1700 a month, I know that my full retirement is at age 67, but I plan on filing early retirement at age 63 and 8 months., being that I will be retiring early I will only get 865 a month, my full retirement amount at age 67 1,200. will I be able to apply for spousal benefit , get a 32% share from husband benefit whick then I can get 1500...this this correct?
I will begin collecting my social security benefit this month at age 70. My wife was born in March 1955, so she is past her FRA. She would like to file now, at which time her spousal benefit based on my earnings will be higher than her own benefit would be currently. However, if she waits until age 70, her benefit based on her own earnings will be greater because of the Delayed Retirement Credits she would accrue.
My disability benefit, turned into my SS benefit when I reached full retirement.
Can I reclaim a new benefit based on my ex wife’s numbers ? It would be substantially more !
Hi. You can't stop drawing your own benefits and collect divorced spousal or survivor benefits instead, but you could apply for an excess divorced spousal or survivor benefit to be paid in addition to your own benefit.
Hello my question is my ex husband gave me a choice spousal or his retirement I chose spousal he than took me back to court and gave me the gavron and took my spousal away now that I am not working can I get his retirement? I am now retired and make only 1292. month. Please help me thank you Helen
Hi Helen. No. People can't bargain away their Social Security benefit rights in a divorce settlement, nor can a state or local court take away your right to Social Security benefits. Therefore, I'm having a hard time understanding your description of events.
I was just was approved for my retirement benefits and am past my full retirement age. If my wife files for spousel benefits, she will be eligible for half of my benefit. She reaches her full retirement age next year and her benefit will be more than half of mine. Will she be able to get her higher benefit or is she locked in to the spousel benefits?
I was born 12/13/1955
I want to use my own full retirement in Feb 2022, until my husband retires at his full retirement age.
Can i take my own retirement now and switch to spousal benefits when my husband retires? I know my spousal benefit will be higher than my own benefit.
I don't want to risk any reduction in spousal benefit.
Thank you very much
Results will differ based on your specific case and filing strategy.
