Will My Spousal Benefit Payment Be Affected During The Five Year Period When My Wife's Not Drawing Benefits?

Could you please clarify -
I am planning to claim my own Full Social Security Benefit at the age of 66.5-yr (I have no pension/annuity associated with my benefits). My spouse is planning to file have spousal benefits out of my SS benefits at the age of 62-yr. However, my spouse will also have her own pension which she plan to start withdrawing at the age of 67-yr.

Can My Wife Take Her Own SS At Age 62 And Then Get Bumped Up To Half Of My FRA Benefit When I Take My SS?

I am almost two years younger than my wife, but was the primary breadwinner. I don’t plan to take SS until 70. Can my wife take her limited SS on her earnings at 62, then, when I take my SS she bumps up to 1/2 my FRA amount? We don’t want to do anything foolish like lock her in to a lower amount forever.

If My Wife Keeps Working And Waits Until Age 70 To Start Taking SS Would She Get The Maximum Benefit?

My wife and I have been married for 26 years, I am 59 and she is 54. We have looked at our SS benefits and will both make about $2800 per month if we wait to age 67 to retire.

My question is if I decide to start taking SS at Age 62, which would be about $1900 per month and my wife kept working and waited until age 70 to start taking SS, would she get the maximum benefit? if she died before me, would I then be able to claim her higher amount?,/blockquote>

If My Wife And I Both Wait Until Age 70 To Claim Our Benefits But If I Die Before Then, Could My Wife Claim Her Own Benefits Retroactively For 6 Months And Then Start Widow's Benefits?

my wife and I are basically the same age, we both just reached fra, her fra is $1600 mine is 2400 we do not plan to claim SS for either of us until 70. if I were to die say a year from now, could she file for retroactive benefits on her self, collect 6 months payments and then file for her widows benefits and get whatever my monthly payment would be upon my death?

How Old Do I Have To Be To Get Social Security?

My question is if am getting retirement how old I have to be to get social security I be 65 in May

Hi. I'm not sure if I understand your question. As long as you have at least 40 quarters of Social Security coverage you can start drawing Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62. However, the earlier you start drawing prior to age 70, the lower your monthly rate will be.

If I'm Late In Applying For Benefits Will I Get Retroactive Payments?

I'm late in applying for my SS early retirement. I plan to retire 12/31/2021 and had hoped to start receiving payments in January 2022 but I neglected to file in time. If I still apply with 12/31 as my retirement date but I don't start receiving payments for several months, will I get any payments retroactive to 12/31/2021?

If You Retire From Your Job At Age 55 Do You Still Have To Wait Until Age 62 For Social Security?

If you retire from your job at 55 you still have to wait until 62 for social security

Hi. Yes, providing that you aren't disabled and if you don't qualify for auxiliary or survivor benefits on someone else's Social Security account. The earliest that anyone can collect Social Security retirement benefits based on their own earnings history is at age 62, regardless of any other factors.

Best, Jerry

Can I Apply For Spousal Benefits?

Hi Larry, this SS issue has me a bit confused. My wife is currently 61 and is no longer working. She worked for the State of Kansas for over 25 years. I am soon to be 65 and play on retiring in when I'm 66 & 6 months my FRA. Not sure what our options are but was curious if any of the following can be applicable.
1) My wife starts collecting her SS benefits at age 62 (2022). Her benefits would be approximately $1,000 per month.
2) Can I apply for spousal benefits under her SS benefits??

How Do I Determine What I'm Entitled To?

I am 55, born in 66. Spouse is 60 born in 61. We are legally separated. We were married for 21 years. I contributed to SS for 25 years and now I contribute to Calstrs. In five years (when husband turns 65), my spousal support will run out and I will be $1000/month short. I am trying to determine if I should start to collect my ss benefits from him at that point, or is it better for me to “tighten my belt,” and wait. How do I determine how much I am entitled to? Do I have to wait until I am 62 to draw from his SS? Thank you
