Hi Larry. Canadian citizen (worked & paid taxes) living in Florida since 1997 (LPR). Single, no kids, 57 yo. Currently receiving social security disability benefits since 2015 due to diagnosis of incurable blood cancer (multiple myeloma). I can no longer work due to cancer and having difficulty making ends meet as everything is now much more expensive. Can I apply for Canadian disability benefits, even after 7 years of being disabled? And if I do apply, will US disability be decreased because I’m receiving Canadian benefits?
Hi, I reached my FRA of 66 in 2019. I am in the application process for SS benefits currently at age 69. SSA reached out to me with the option of receiving a lump sum payment covering benefits from July of 2020. With a reduced benefit going forward from the full amount I would receive at this time from DRC. Curious as to why SSA made this option available. Hoping for some insight from your experience. My instincts are telling me to just stick with the full benefit I have earned with 3+ years of DRC's. Thank you, FD.
Can I collect early on Lisa social security and then switch at 70 1/2 to my account and do the same for Lisa she collects at 62 from mine and then switch to hers at 70 1/2
I am 67 and 3 months. My question is my husband is 70 1/2 and is collecting his SS benefit. We are both still working and I would like to know if I can collect half of his SS until I’m 70 and then change to mine?
I reach FRA in December of this year. (born 6.25.57). I've been told that I can apply for SS benefits any time this calendar year and not be penalized. In other words, can I apply now for SS and begin receiving it immediately OR do I have to wait until I actually reach FRA?
I am still working at the moment and intend to continue to work but I'm told that once I reach FRA it won't matter.
My husband started taking benefits at 62 and has a small benefit. I plan to start taking benefits in January of 2023 and my benefit will be almost double. How does his benefit impact mine and vice versa? Should he switch to a spousal benefit and how?
Hello,
I will be 67 and 7 months in a few days. I am single, never married, still working, no dependents. I am on Medicare, but have not yet filed for Social Security.
I plan to keep working until at least 70.
I understand that I can claim, suspend, then restart benefits. If I do that now, I think I can collect 6 months in a lump sum, is that right? If at all possible, I would like to avoid collecting a check for even one month. I’m interested in the lump sum alone.
I work from 1981 until 2015 full time got lay off.(2015) Now Working par time for the city of San jose ca Only 10 hrs a week.
Can I apply for social security at age 62?
I was married for 17 years.. and now divorced for more years than that. My ex passed 5 years ago at age of 60.. I am 66 years and 1 month old. I am planning to retire from my full time job at the end of June 2023. I was planning to draw my retirement benefits beginning in April at 66 and 4 months. Right now now his benefit is $1300/mo and mine is $2100/mo. If I can swing it with a part time job, my 401k and other savings, am I able to draw his benefits beginning in April and allow mine to accrue until I am 70?
Results will differ based on your specific case and filing strategy.
