What Happens to Disability Benefits At Full Retirement Age?

I have been rweceiving Social Security Disability Insurance payments monthly since 2011. I am now 58. When I reach retirement age (65), what happens?
Do I continue receiving SSDI alone?
Do I receive SSDI and Social Security retirement benefits?
Or
do I only receive Social Security Retirement Benefits?

Thanks. Double dipping just seems too good to be true!

Hi,

Yes, that would be too good to be true. You can't receive both retirement and disability benefits at the same time.

Can I Get Credit For Earnings Not Posted To My Social Security Earnings Record?

I was recently approved for Social Security Disability. The SSA earning print-out I had received when I applied showed zero earnings for 2005. I was sure that I was employed that year, so I wrote to the IRS for a tax return transcript, but they had no data because this was over 30 years ago. I did not pursue the matter further. Yesterday, I cleaned out my files and located my paper Federal and State tax returns for 2005 along with the W-2 for that employer. The W-2 was professionally printed and showed withholding for Social Security, Medicare, Federal taxes and State taxes.

Can My Wife Get Spousal Benefits On My Disability Account?

I am retired own disability. My wife of 39 years is about to reach 62. Can she file for spousal benefits?

Hi,

Yes, she can file for reduced spousal benefits on your disability account at age 62. However, she'll also be deemed to be applying for benefits on her own account, so she'll essentially get whichever benefit is higher. Also, there is a special formula for calculating the family maximum payable on disability accounts which may limit or even zero out her potential spousal benefits.

Best, Jerry

Can I Take My Benefits In A Lump Sum?

Hello Larry,

i am a 64 year old disabled person drawing disability benefits of about $1500.00 a month. I also receive $3600.00 each month from VA. for VA comp. Can I withdraw from the ss system after I apply for a one time lump sum payment based upon the average time I will Live and or can I make a one time lump sum withdrawal for say one year ? two years ? 5 years ? to either help with a downpayment on a new home and or to fund a lawsuit I am fixing to have to litigate in order to sue for denial of our ever important civil rights ?

Yours, David

I got widows pension for over one year. I worked most of my life. Prior i applied for SS disability, i got approved for SS disability. I went to VA and stopped Widows Pension.I have been getting SS disability checks for couple of months. I did not get my back pay, why? Are they keeping it because of Widows Pension. I called several times and they do not give me any answers.

Can I Work And Still Get Disability Benefits?

I am 57 y.o. and have been receiving SSDI since 2012.
I have read that it is possible to work while continuing to collect disability but there is conflicting information on the length of time this can occur and the maximum dollar amount to be earned.
In addition, when I first incurred the disability I was not married but married later that same year.
If that isn't enough, we are now separated which is the sole reason I need to work.
He currently receives SSI (born 1950-after the deadline).
I'm in need of your help.
Thank you!

What Should I Do if I Stopped Receiving My Disability Check?

A few months ago, I stopped receiving my state disability check. What should I do? Thanks, Gina

Gina, do you mean you stopped receiving your Social Security disability check? If so, you should check with your local Social Security office. If you really do mean a state disability check rather than a Social Security disability check, then you'll need to check with the appropriate office of your state. Thanks, John
